It is generally true that you get what you pay for. I have a doctorate in Trumpet Performance, and I have taught all levels extensively for over 25 years, including at five universities and multiple all-state high school students in Texas. The trumpet method books I have written are my curriculum, and with a commitment of three lessons, the student receives a free 230-page book in PDF format, valued at $50. My teaching style is fun and engaging, including all styles, though my primary focus is classical.

About Daniel T.

As evidence of my expertise on trumpet teaching, I've written six method books on the subject! Your success is my number one priority. I teach fundamentals (breathing, embouchure, finger technique, articulation, etc.) in very unique and effective ways. My teaching philosophy: To eliminate distractions from music-making! Music should be FUN, and the better you get, the more fun it is!

Finding a highly competent teacher who has been "around the block" and is a PROFESSIONAL PERFORMER, is not easy. Dr. Thrower has a wide spectrum of experience ranging from Jazz Band, to Brass Quintet, to British Brass Band, to Orchestra -- including Solo performance(s). Besides that, he is a composer and has written several trumpet study books. So he brings all of those components to his knowledge base -- an excellent resource base.

A significant improvement for me, due to his input, was to change my mouthpiece to a Giddings Stainless Steel model. It was one of the most profound improvements that now allows me to practice/play longer -- with less effort and greater control of my horn.

A key point for me to make to ANY student.... IF you are serious about the trumpet and you want to advance, then you MUST find a good teacher who will help DRIVE you to excellence. Because trumpet is such a demanding instrument, and you have such limited time to practice (embouchure-oriented restraints), you cannot afford to develop either bad or compromising habits/methods. I have seen other promising students become "ruined" because they did not have the proper tutelage.

The reason why the best universities and music conservatories staff with the best teachers is because it is the only way to produce the greatest players. If you are serious about your horn, and want to move BEYOND the "crowd", then you need a teacher who is above the norm. Dr. Thrower will make it worth your while -- I know.

Freelance Musician

You name it, I've done it. I've played with the San Antonio Symphony, Omaha Symphony, Sioux Falls Symphony, and principal trumpet with the Idaho Falls Symphony. I've performed in pit orchestras for over 15 full-production musicals and operas. I have toured many times throughout the world, including Russia, Finland, the Baltic countries, and most recently on a solo tour in Brazil. I've played internationally in jazz bands, orchestras, and as a classical soloist. I also have experience in recording studios for films and video games. Currently I am the principal cornet player for the Nebraska Brass Band.
