I have been a professional oil painter for 36 years and have taught oil and acrylic painting classes fro over a decade. I teach a casual, fun but serious style class. My goal is to teach the basics of creating a simple strong painting in a semi realistic style. However, my goal is to allow the student to develop their own individual style. Understanding the creative process is also key to making good art.
- Teaches students:
- Ages 12 to 85 and special needs
- Teaching since:
My name is Dan. The only thing that I love more than painting is teaching students how to paint. I call my teaching method, "serious play". In other words, I want the students to learn something of value during each class, but also to enjoy the creative process that is key to making a successful painting.
I have been a professional oil painter for over 36 years and have taught painting classes for over a decade. I specialize in original landscapes and wildlife paintings done in a realistic - impressionistic style. My artwork has been collected throughout the country and has appeared in many publications such as Ducks Unlimited Magazine and Cabela's catalog.Show More
Keep the brushes wet, make every stroke count! Very patient - you’ve just got to do it. Been invaluable in guiding the composition - he can’t hold the brush for you! For a “left brained” person like myself I need to get the “slap”!😄Show More
Terrible! Missed an appointment, limited knowledge, poor teaching skills. Would avoid..
Dan is a fantastic teacher. His demos are easy to follow and he answers your questions completely. This has been one of the best classes I have ever taken.
Being new to oil painting it would have been helpful to get more detail instruction on the medium. Brush techniques and even color mixing and blending instruction would have been helpful. Dan seems like a nice guy but maybe suited for an intermediate student instead of a beginner.Show More
Dan is has a lot of patience and is very encouraging, I enjoyed my first lesson with him very much!
Daniel is a great instructor! He works with you to better understand the fundamentals of how a painting is properly constructed. I enjoy his teachings and look forward to several more already booked!
Outstanding. Lesson and teacher
Today's art lesson with Dan was planned, organized, and given in a friendly, professional and very informative manner. He has excellent communication skills and his demonstrations are informative as well a fascinating to watch. As Dan's student, I was immediately put at ease by his friendly and energetic personality; I felt as if I were talking to an old friend and I left the lesson with a renewed enthusiasm for painting. I really feel as if I doubled my understanding and enthusiasm for oil painting in my first lesson with Dan. No matter what your skill level is, a few lessons with Dan will do wonders for your painting ability and you will enjoy every bit of the time you spend with Dan.Show More

I have taken several classes from Dan- at his home and Western Colorado Center for the Arts. Dan has a mellow ,soothing approach to teaching. He often let's the student take control, only to intercede when needed. Dan has a good use of color and could depict wonderful wildlife scenes-wildlife is his forteShow More
When I heard Dan was giving painting classes 19 years ago, I rushed to enroll. I had been admiring his paintings and style ever since I first saw them displayed. Although I had some art experience, I was really new to oil painting and the lessons Dan was able to convey helped me immensely. His classes were easy going and informal leading to a relaxed environment making learning so enjoyable. Though I am now a professional artist, I find myself often thinking back to techniques or lessons in composition I learned from Dan in the years I studied with him. He's a natural!Show More
Before I ever met Dan Loge in person, I fell in love with one of his paintings: A lovely Killdear. A number of workshops with Dan have added greatly to my knowledge about painting. His ability to present useful information in clear, concise language is exceptional. A master of his profession, he is an excellent instructor as well. *****Show More
