my first drum lesson was the best gift I ever received. I was so very fortunate because if not for these drum lessons as a beginner I would not be the professional performer and teacher that I am today. Taking one on one private lessons for five years prepared me for college and beyond. Even more so, taught me what it takes to be a great teacher. I went on to earn a BM in Jazz studies at the University of North Florida. While majoring in the drum set I also studied piano and percussion. After graduating I’ve been able to work professionally in many settings and musical genres, including jazz, rock, pop, reggae, R & B, hip hop, gospel, blues, funk and soul, folk and blue grass, Latin, middle eastern, and other world music. These experiences lend me to have an open minded and all encompassing view of the potential and possibilities of music. I have been fortunate to share my knowledge and experience to many students. I began teaching six years ago and have had students of all ages and ability levels in both drum set and piano. Whether you’re a beginner who would like to establish a great foundation, an intermediate player who wants to take it to the next level, or an advanced player who needs a new perspective or deeper focus, I am the devoted teacher you have been looking for. *** Lesson Details *** I am a very laid back teacher who also expects a lot from my students. This my be a little confusing, but what I mean is that I am a firm believer that you cannot play music if you are not relaxed , but at the same time you have to work very hard at it to succeed. I also, understand that success is not the same for everyone. This being said, I tailor each lesson plan to each individual. All students within the first six months will have learned basic understanding of reading, listening, technique, and rhythm. By this time each student should be on their way to reading and playing the songs and music they enjoy. Hour lessons are most beneficial for all students but the same goals will be met no matter the length of the lesson. My intermediate and advanced students will have the opportunity to study their favorite genres of music. Including jazz theory and other advanced concepts. *** Studio Equipment *** The home studio is in a sun room in the front of the house with room for 2 drum sets, a piano, percussion instruments, a vibraphone, and organ. Seating is also available in the living room and sun room. *** Specialties *** I specialize in jazz drum set and jazz harmony and theory. I also specialize in world percussion.
