Cello lessons with an extensively experienced cello player

From the foundations of technique to musical fluency and interpretation, I guide my students through the process of building freedom and confidence as well-rounded musicians. Mastering the instrument physically is as important as having a personal, emotional connection to the music we play, and understanding the workings of musical communication allows us to create those magical moments for ourselves and our listeners. Through my studies with renowned pedagogues such as Areta Zhulla and Joel Krosnick of the Juilliard Quartet, chamber music guru Merry Peckham, and world-renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman, I've developed a unique method for acquiring both effortless technique and the tools to make sense of any piece of music. I believe that every student can make incredible leaps in their musical ability as they discover their own powers of examination, exploration, and determination. I have extensive experience with classical as well as contemporary music theory, history, and performance practice. Students in my studio can get to know one another, practice together, and perform in a monthly studio class. I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi there! I've heard so many people say that the cello is their favorite instrument...I'm guessing it might be yours too! It's certainly mine. I live in New York City and besides my work as a performer and recording artist, I am passionate about teaching my cello students. I welcome students of all different ages and experience levels. I have partnerships with a number of cello shops in the Tri-state area, so if you don’t have one yet, we can find an instrument for you together! In my lessons I use an organized and engaging method of acquiring effortless technique, as well as the tools to tell a story through music. I have a catalog of exercises and songs that I use to give my students a clear pathway to success, but I also believe it to be very important to ask my students what they would like to play. Often there is a song that fuels our motivation to practice, and that’s always an invaluable experience. A bit about me: I have a Master's degree from Juilliard in cello performance, and have performed as a soloist and chamber musician across the U.S, Canada, and in Israel, Hungary, Portugal, the Netherlands, and Germany. As a teacher, I've given workshops and masterclasses at youth orchestras and pre-college programs such as the Las Vegas Young Artists Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and the Israel Music Conservatory, and have been teaching a studio of private students for over 4 years. Besides my work as a classical cellist, I have worked with various contemporary artists in the Jazz, Rock, and Folk mediums as an improviser, arranger, and songwriter. I love discovering new ways of using my instrument, and am always pushing myself to expand my musical vocabulary. Teaching is an essential part of my work as a musician--my parents are teachers, my mentors are teachers, my colleagues are teachers. The ability to play music is an endless source of inspiration and joy for children and adults alike, and I cherish the opportunity to collaborate with my students on their musical journeys!

Daniel is the best! His love for music is infectious and I feel so lucky to have found him. He is patient and supportive, enthusiastic and knowledgeable and not to mention a brilliant cellist, which goes without saying. 10/10 recommend him for anything.

Daniel has been teaching my 12 year old daughter cello for the last 3 years. He is a very attentive and patient teacher, with an excellent approach to his students. My daughter loves to go to his lessons, and has even enjoyed the Zoom lessons with Daniel over the last year. He has a lot of musical knowledge and has a delightful personality. I highly recommend him.

Daniel is an amazing teacher! I have been taking cello lessons from him for the last 5 years. I'm an older student (41 y.o), and started out with little musical experience and only a dream to play the cello. Daniel is so patient and supportive, with the most pleasant demeanor you can imagine. His musical knowledge runs deep, and his eclectic approach to playing and teaching the cello touches on a variety of musical genres, including classical, jazz, folk, and other styles. With his natural talent for teaching, Daniel is very sensitive to my stumbling blocks and difficulties in the lessons, and is so helpful with his clear instructions in how to break down and solve the problems. Most of all, his lessons and wisdom are very inspiring, and I am always looking forward to our next meeting. I wholeheartedly recommend Daniel as a music teacher.
