Daniel Choi is a Portland based drummer and instructor, originally from the Seattle area. Daniel was raised in a musical household and began taking music lessons at age 5 (starting with piano then cello), it wasn't until age 10 however Daniel found his true musical passion, drums. Daniel first started under the instruction of fusion drummer Ed Mays and developed into a well-rounded groove oriented player. In 2014, Daniel graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science in Music Technology and Political Science, before moving to the Portland area. Daniel emphasizes versatility and musicality in all playing styles; he lives by the motto "the rules we choose to break and how we break them, define our style" (among other mottos you'll discover throughout his lessons). Daniel teaches out of a personal beginner curriculum he's developed over the years (combining the educational philosophies of "Funky Primer", "Groove Essentials for the Modern Drummer" and "The Language of Drumming"), before branching out into custom tailored lessons for each individual student. Daniel is located in the North Portland area and is available to drive out to lessons in the Portland and Vancouver areas.
