Music theory lessons with a jazz and rock performer

From understanding the basic harmony in "Call Me Maybe" improvisation to learning improvisation and composition techniques, I draw on my experience in applying western and non-western music theory across Piano, Singing, Drums, and Bass Guitar. I make sure that any concepts covered always have context in repertoire, so that there is a constant application of the theory and it never stands on its own.

    About Daniel B.

    5.0

I'm a gigging musician and teacher with a degree in Musical Studies from Oberlin College & Conservatory. I pride myself on patience and empathy no matter what I teach, whether it be feeling the pulse of a complicated drum groove or polishing up a piano piece for the first time. For music lessons, I strive to bring in a context of genre fluidity and history, so that a student knows where and what to explore on their own even when I am not in the room to show them. My teaching is all about inspiring students to express their own creativity and make their strengths work for them, rather than only playing a tune the "right way" to get from point A to point B.
