I am not one of the lucky few who was born with inherent musical talent. I've had to work hard for my knowledge and ability and I believe that this gives me an edge over teachers who are naturally musical. I once struggled to learn even the basics of music. This enables me to personally identify & understand the struggles that a developing student faces. Many teachers born with musical talent fail to be good guides through the musical wilderness because sometimes they simply cannot relate to a student's struggle. I've been teaching for six years. For four of those years I taught guitar at Aleoop, a musical enrichment program at the Brookside & Hillside elementary schools in Allendale. I work best with younger students. I've found that because of my age young students find me more relatable than my older counterparts. My aim as a teacher is to empower my students with the gifts of self-expression and confidence. My focus is on artistic enrichment, enjoyment and technical proficiency.
