I majored in Music and Classical Guitar Performance – studies included Music Theory, Performance, Composition, Sight Singing, Computers and Music, and Music of the Western World. I have been teaching guitar and theory since 2002, but as a volunteer minister, I have been teaching most my life. I have a love for people and different cultures so I have been learning Romanian for the past 6yr in order to reach out to the Romanian population in Portland. I truly like taking a personal interest in students, and seeing them progress. I strive to share my passion for music. I believe that if you make a creative lesson plan that excites their imagination you will be astounded by what they are capable of learning. *** Lesson Details *** I want you and I to have fun! One of the most exciting moments for a new musician is to actually make music; realizing for the first time that they can not only play one of their favorite songs, but write melodies of their own. That’s why I like to set aside a large portion of lessons, to find out what music interests you, what songs will get you excited, whether classical or pop. While it’s certainly important to learn proper technique, a bit of music theory and study some of the classical technique, I try to balance this with making certain that the lesson is fun, and showing you how to take home knowledge after each lesson that will help you not only excel, but play with feeling and enjoyment. I try to explain the fundamentals of guitar, and theory of music in such a way as to allow you to not be tied to me your whole life. With this teaching style, you soon be figuring songs out on your own. If you don’t know something: I will have given you the keys to figure it out on your own and this will leave you with a since of satisfaction, and accomplishment. You can always feel free to ask questions. *** Travel Equipment *** Guitar of course ;), tuner ,handouts, and suggested method books *** Specialties *** I specialize in finger style guitar, and making music make since to my students through teaching them about keys, how to write out a scale, which chords are major and minor in a Major scale, and so on. Also group classes starting at ages 2-6 yr old.
