I am an active freelance hornist in the Madison, WI area. Beginning my studies at the age of nine, I have been playing the horn for 17 years. After finishing high school in Houston, Texas, I relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where I began my undergraduate work at Louisiana State University under the instruction of Seth Orgel of the Atlantic Brass Quintet.
Upon completion of my Bachelor of Music degree in 2011, l moved to Chicago, IL where I spent the next two years earning a Master's degree in music performance. During this time I studied with Dale Clevenger, long time Principal Horn of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
During my career, I have performed in a wide variety of settings including orchestral performances, musicals, operas, chamber music, and solo performances.
*** Lesson Details ***
I am highly enthusiastic about teaching the art of music and brass playing to all who wish to learn. I developed my teaching philosophy by combining the teaching styles of my own personal teachers. I start by focusing on the fundamentals of brass playing. These include skills such as breathing, tone production, scales, and arpeggios. I believe that once learned, these skills can be used as tools in order to make beautiful music. The next phase of teaching focuses more on the music itself. Things such as phrasing, dynamics, tone color, and style are what separate the good performers from the great ones. I use a proven combination of method books, etude books, and my own personal exercises and pieces that I have created to both fix certain problems, as well as perfect the art of music making.
While this may sound intimidating to a new student or their parents, DO NOT BE AFRAID! I am very good at what I do, and I promise that I can teach you all of these skills and more. In the end, it all comes down to the joy that can come from making music, and my teaching method can get you to the point where you can have more fun than you ever imagined performing music.
