I attended Wright State University, where I graduated with Latin honors in June of 2007 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. Among the numerous honors I received during my matriculation at Wright State University, I was on the Deans List every quarter, and won the highest distinction offered by the Department of Music by winning the coveted Wright State University Concerto Night Competition in February of 2007. I was also a 2004 and 2006 winner of the department Honors Recital, and a recipient of the WSU Chamber Players “Beethoven Award. In June of 2004, I joined the Wright State University Wind Symphony on a tour of Japan, where I performed as a featured soloist. In the fall of 2007, I began my graduate studies for a Master of Music in music performance degree at the University of Florida. While working towards my degree, I served as a graduate teaching assistant for the flute studio at the University of Florida. I taught MUS 2450, an undergraduate course in instrumental skills, was the applied flute instructor to undergraduates pursuing a minor in flute performance, and gave masterclasses and lecture-presentations to the flute studio on performance practices, the history of the flute, and important pedagogical figures in flute. My teaching experiences include working with several high school bands in Ohio and Florida and serving as Assistant Director for Flutopia, a summer flute camp experience. I have taught private music lessons for 12 years. As a staff member at the Interlochen Arts Camp, I studied flute with the principal flutist of the San Antonio Symphony, Tallon Perkes, and worked as a guest clinician for the Junior Division band. Professionally, I was a contracted flutist with the Ocala Symphony for two years while I worked on my graduate degree in flute. *** Lesson Details *** I am a dynamic and energetic teacher. Lessons with me usually involve me wildly gesticulating and moving around to illustrate a passage. I have method books that I do tend to use with most students, but for those just starting with me, we usually start with whatever they already have (even if that's just a band method book). Usually we can start there and then branch out as needed. I encourage note taking during lessons. So, a notebook and pencil for flute lessons is a necessity. Some of my students find that they get the most out of recording their lesson and listening to the play back of their lesson to pick up things they missed in the moment. If you have something to bring to record your lesson, please feel free to bring that! I've recorded lessons on my iPhone and emailed them to my students and parents before. *** Studio Equipment *** I teach out of my apartment in a combined living room/dining room. I have a mirror and comfortable seating for parents in the living room. *** Specialties *** I specialize in classical music and flute music of Brazil.

Great Teacher! I really enjoyed the lessons I had with Cynthia; not only did she make playing the flute fun, but she really helped me get a better grasp on some techniques that I was having a little bit of trouble with! Not only is she a great and understanding teacher, she is a fantastic musician; two of the most important things I believe you need in a private instructor. :)

Wonderful teacher It's apparent Cynthia loves what she does. She's patient, thoughtful, encouraging, and does a wonderful job helping students achieve their musical potential. I am so thankful for all of Cynthia's hard work helping my daughter learn and nurture her passion for music.

Super talented - Great Personality - Excellent Teacher I could not think of a better teacher to teach my beginning, intermediate or advanced flutist. Cynthia is truly an amazingly talented musician and just as kind and nurturing of a teacher. I give her my highest recommendation!
