Music is a universal language, and can be a connecting thread between people. The relationship between teacher and student is unique, and is an important one to foster. In lessons with me, I will teach you not only about the violin but also other aspects of music, namely notes, pitch, rhythm, ear training, theory, and then musicality and phrasing.
I also believe in the importance of a well-rounded musician. To me, this means a healthy curiosity for knowledge and appreciation for different genres of music. My training is mostly classical, but in recent years have discovered fiddle music, and love it! I have extensive experience in solo repertoire, orchestral repertoire, chamber music, and fiddle music. I graduated with a Bachelor's of Music from Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland, and a Master's of Music from the University of Colorado in Boulder, with a quartet assistantship under the tutelage of Takacs Quartet. I have been teaching kids for almost 10 years.
I am a passionate and creative teacher who would love to have the opportunity to meet you. Let's embark on your musical adventure!
Crystal has done a wonderful job teaching my son for the past 5 years - she does a great job of identifying my son’s strengths and weaknesses and creates a curriculum that suits his abilities. She knows how to push a student to achieve their best without sacrificing their passion or interest in the instrument. My son became concertmaster of his school’s chamber orchestra this year and was accepted into the Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra as well - none of this would’ve been possible without Crystal’s strong and attentive guidance. i highly recommend Crystal for violin lessons.+ Read More
