Craig R. grew up immersed in the Los Angeles music scene playing guitar in various Heavy Metal and Blues bands. After attending college for music Craig began teaching private guitar lessons at a local music store in Glendale, CA. where he taught upwards of 25 students a week. Having always been a songwriter, Craig later turned his attention to composing for production music companies where his music has been place on many TV shows. Craig has continued to teach private lessons and welcomes students of guitar, music theory and composition.
If you're a beginning student I usually start the lessons with basic chords, strumming patterns, technique and reading music (enough to give a foundation). Once you have some of the basics down, I then like to open the lessons up to achieving your specific goals on guitar, like learning your favorite songs.
If you’re an intermediate player, I usually assess where you are with your playing and what your goals are and structure the lesson to suit. Whether that's more technique, sight reading, improvisation, soloing, or simply learning more songs.
Music Theory/Composition students will get a more “theory” based approach to music. Learning scales formulas, how to build chords from scales and how shape these into music. Most composition studies would make use of a DAW (Logic, Garage Band).
My home studio is a separate private structure free from distraction. I have everything needed for lessons. All you would bring is your guitar and any lesson materials assigned. There is plenty of space for parents to wait and ample street parking.
Broadcast Music Inc. was founded in 1939 by forward-thinkers who wanted to represent songwriters in emerging genres, like jazz, blues and country, and protect the public performances of their music. Operating on a non-profit-making basis, BMI is now the largest music rights organization in the U.S. and is still nurturing new talent and new music.
