*** About Me *** My name is Courtney O., and I love to teach music. I started playing piano in the second grade and began taking private voice lessons when I was 12. I focused on music and music business all the way through my BM degree at Minnesota State University Moorhead. I have been involved in private lessons, musical theater, choirs, vocal jazz, and so many other things in between. I am a self-taught songwriter, and moved to Nashville in 2009 to pursue music. I spent my first year in Tennessee teaching privately at the high school level, which I loved! I spent the next four years in Corporate America, but have found how profoundly I miss teaching. I have recently returned to my own personal vocal study with a wonderful studio in Nashville, and am reopening my teaching schedule! I am currently accepting any age and level for voice coaching, basic music theory and basic songwriting. I am available in person in Nashville, or over Skype anywhere in the world! *** Specialties *** I believe in a strong basis in music theory and music literacy, no matter what. I believe in teaching traditional technique and taking it to every genre. For example, use of proper breath support and posture can be translated from Opera to country music. I teach classical, broadway, jazz and pop styles for voice, and classical and pop in composing and songwriting. I coach all levels of voice students, and beginning Composition and songwriting students. *** Requirements *** Student must have his or her own instrument. Voice students should either play another instrument or have a recording device so they have a means of remembering and practicing the lesson during the week. For students without a piano, I have a keyboard I can bring with me if there is no piano or keyboard in the home. While I can provide some music, students should be expected to purchase their own. I will keep the demands on this stipulation reasonable.
