Learn to sew! I'm an experienced sewist and clothing designer who loves to teach people how to sew clothing, home decor, bags, and crafts. I can also teach you how to dye your own fabric with synthetic and natural dyes. I work with each student to customize lessons and projects based on skill level and interest, whether you want to learn to sew your first tote bag or advance your skill to more complex projects. Lessons are focused on helping students develop skills and techniques for creating quality, long-lasting pieces and advancing as a sewist.

About Courtney L.

I am an artist and designer who works in fashion, textiles, and multimedia. I'm the founder and creative lead of Sunday Shift, a line of clothing and accessories designed and handmade in Durham, North Carolina from sustainable textiles, low-impact dyes, and vintage materials.

I love teaching people how to sew and empowering them with the ability to make and create. I have taught private lessons and workshops to teenagers and adults, and I have also worked as a teaching assistant for college art courses. I'm committed to creating learning experiences that are fun, supportive, and engaging for every student. My studio is LGBTQ+ friendly and affirming of people of all identities.

Prior to settling in North Carolina few years ago, I lived in New York City and Boston. I have a Master of Fine Arts from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and a bachelor’s degree in English and a certificate in Visual Art from Princeton University. I was a 2015 and 2016 fellow with Launch, a selective program for creative entrepreneurs offered through Visual Art Exchange in Raleigh, NC.
