I've been a teacher of the body, the spirit, and the mind for 16 years. I teach meditation, mindfulness, and languages to promote a holistic study of life and well-being. I offer classes in meditation and mindfulness a little differently than many teachers. Many meditation classes are guided sessions which are nice but aren’t really “lessons” My goal is to teach you a practice that you can follow on your own. I want to become progressively useless to you! Haha! I will teach you how to start a practice, or help you figure out the next steps on your path so you can have the skill and confidence to endure whatever hardships life has to throw at you. I have a Master's Degree in Asian Studies and I lived, taught, and studied in China and Japan for half a decade. I trained and taught in Zen monasteries learning about meditation and the teachings of Eastern philosophy such as Buddhist and Indian thought. Whether you're just starting out or you have an established practice I can help guide you. But I’m not here to teach you my path. I’m here to help point out the next steps on yours. We can use easy and real techniques to help you lessen anxiety, be more present, and manage stress in a safe and productive way!

I consider myself to be a professional pointer. I point to the best books, resources, experiences, and other teachers. As a mindfulness meditation teacher I try to pay attention and help others on their path by pointing out the next steps to take. Zen has been described as "a finger pointing at the moon". You can have the best teacher in the world but if the student keeps looking at the finger, they are missing the point. But that doesn't stop me from trying! As a private teacher I try to find the best way to point so you don't have to struggle so hard. And that's really it isn't it? We are all trying to get through this life without having to struggle so hard. For most people, if it could just be a little bit easier, that would be enough. So that's what I try to do. I try to show you how the waves that keep knocking you down aren't going to stop. You can't smooth out the ocean. But you CAN learn to be a better surfer. You can learn to manage your hardships, stress, anxiety, depression, and suffering a little better by gaining perspective, doing self work, practicing meditation/mindfulness, and accepting the things you can't change. When you learn to do this, it makes EVERYTHING in life just a little bit easier. I've been learning and teaching these lessons my entire adult life. First as a martial arts and self defense teacher. Then as an English and Japanese language teacher. As a college professor and now as a meditation/mindfulness teacher. I have taught this in meditation retreats to 100's of students in Chinese monasteries, to employees at law firms, to students in university, and to people I meet at the coffee shop. I can show you how to do it too.

100% recommend Cory as a teacher of mindfulness and meditation. He has exceeded my expectations of what I originally understood as mindfulness and meditation when I sought out a teacher. His understanding, way of teaching, and guidance is exemplary. I am so glad I stumbled upon his profile and decided "why not?" and chose to have a session with him. I have learned so much in just 5 classes and he has opened my eyes to so many things in the world and about myself. I can't wait to better my practice as we are just beginning! Hiring him as a coach may be one of the best investments I've made for myself.

I started working with Cory to get my ADD under control. What I *also* got was a handle on my overwhelming stress response. We dove into what I was experiencing when I got bogged down with fear/stress and broke down the negative thinking that was causing it. It felt like we addressed the real issues instead of slapping band-aids on top of them. Cory was a great teacher- super compassionate, engaging, and funny throughout what could have easily been tense sessions. This was *exactly* what I needed. Thank you so much!! Ask him about staying in a Zen monastery in China and shaving his eyebrows off!
