Music lessons are meant to help the student grow in more than just competence in their instrument. They build personal confidence, social skills, and a love for the arts. With my ability to teach piano, vocals and guitar, your student has my experience to tap into as they grow as a musician. I have been performing professionally for churches, theaters, and restaurants since the age of 16, applying my education and training in the music industry. Growing up, I took piano lessons from ages 5 - 18, then went on to continue my passion for music by taking music composition and theory courses. This allows me to link piano, guitar and voice together in and out of lessons. You, and your student, have everything to gain from hiring me as a teacher! *** Lesson Details *** I teach piano by the book, but supplement the curriculum with a blank manuscript book. This allows the student to write, compose, and learn more about music theory as I help them with their weekly lesson material. Once the student has a basic understanding of theory and note reading, I include songs that they enjoy to listen to. Often times, I teach them how to score out music they listen to for playback on the piano. Guitar and vocals have a slightly different approach. I focus on the basics, giving tips on how to be a good player or singer. We learn songs that build technique, often chosen by me to fit their needs. *** Travel Equipment *** I provide books and other items when the need arises. The student should own the instrument they are interested in. *** Specialties *** For piano, I have used various methods for child beginner and adult beginner to child intermediate to adult advanced (Alfred, Bastien, Faber). I prefer to ask what specific goals the student may have to accomplish, and focus on a tailor-made curriculum that fits their goals. For example: If a student wishes to know about jazz improvisation on piano, we discuss scale methods and chord settings that apply. If a guitar student wants to know about soloing, we discuss scale patterns and study other solos. I can work in any genre or style that fits the needs of the student.
