Elementary, Middle School, High School, College
MY MAT in Secondary English Education and my undergraduate education focused heavily on learning theory, practice and study skill strategies, which enables me to create tailored profiles for each of my students to increase their success rate on a variety of tests and evaluations. Having scored highly and taught students who also scored highly on the AP, SAT, ASVAB, GRE, CSET, CBEST and other academic tests, I have a personal experience with the testing process as well as with the study skills and content knowledge required to pass these tests.

Teaching since:

Focus on the student is paramount for my lesson planning. Each student will learn differently through varied interests, pacing needs, and goals for their language development. Thus, my approach and materials will vary depending on the needs and experience of the student. I want her or him to want to learn.

I teach a range of student types from young children looking to learn conversational French in an engaging format, to teens looking to polish their writing style in both English and French, to adults pursuing fluency for wok or leisure. I know my own hobbies (which include backpacking, hiking, travel, reading, and language learning) have influenced my linguistic journey, and my students' interests drive their own journey similarly.

I currently hold three degrees in French and Learning theory: a Masters in Secondary English& Learning Theory, a Bachelor's in French & Comparative Literature, and an Associates in Early Childhood Learning & Development. This, combined with my extensive experience with the AP system and the time that I lived in and attended l'université in France saturate my pedagogical choices and methods in teaching both these subjects and the satellite subject areas such as diction, study skills, reading and writing.

In addition to over ten years of experience teaching, I also have firsthand experience learning four foreign languages, giving me a real-world glimpse into the challenges and the joys of a new language. It is my love of the learning process, patience and passion for these subjects that are most efficacious in the tutoring process.

bonne chance et à bientôt!

Clarissa is fantastic! I have been sporadically trying to learn French for over 10 years but I haven't made any steady progress. She is helping me take achievable steps to help me with consistent progress and to reach my goal, all while keeping it fun! Excellent teacher!!

Our son had a great lesson with Clarissa and can’t wait for the next one!! Clarissa was very patient and gave Luke plenty of time to answer the questions. He stayed engaged the entire 45 minute lesson. We shortened the lesson to 30 minutes at Clarissa’s suggestion to ensure he gets the most from each lesson which I really appreciated! This has been a wonderful experience so far!

Clarissa knows her subject well and how to assess a student's level of proficiency so that she can appropriately tailor the lessons to the need and goals. She also has a wonderful sense of humor which keeps the learning environment light and less stressful!

Clarissa did a great job. My 5 and 7 year old took French lessons with her. They are very active and have short attention spans, but she did a great job keeping them engaged. They played games, learned songs, and had a chance to move around. They had a lot of fun and really liked Clarissa. She was very reasonable with scheduling and rescheduling, and communicating was easy.

Clarissa was really thoughtful and attentive to my needs. She checked in with me at the end of every lesson to figure out what worked for me and make new goals for the next lesson.
She was really understanding about my accent (which wasn't great). I didn't realize accent could be fixed, but she showed me how to make the right sounds and was really patient.

I could really see how much better I was getting with her help and the way she sets up lessons, I could use the class materials and practice in between lessons.

I originally picked her because she was so affordable, but I am so glad I did now!
