I am a teacher of many subjects who graduated from Kenyon College with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and in Psychology. While in school, I cobbled together an unofficial Medieval Studies concentration and took more English classes than my advisor thought possible. Studying bassoon, singing in an a cappella group, and dabbling in ballroom dance filled out the rest of my collegiate experience.
Taking abstract concepts and making them relatable has always been a passion. In college, this meant starting a music theory tutoring program for music majors who found themselves baffled by counterpoint and nonmajors learning music for the first time. After college, this passion led to a year of service in City Year, an Americorps program focused on bringing near-peer tutors to underserved schools throughout the U.S. Within the 7th-grade classroom, I taught reading, writing, algebra, and wellness to individuals and small groups.
I am comfortable with adapting lessons to individual needs and working with ESL students.
