My lessons are custom-oriented to your goals. You will learn confidence in your abilities to perform well and have fun. I will train your mental toolkit, while steering you toward the digital and real-world tools you need to achieve musical success.
Working towards clearly defined goals in a low-pressure, focused environment, my students reach their maximum potential quickly and with confidence. With my expertise and your dedication, we'll have fun and you'll come away from each lesson with something new to work on.
You already enjoy listening to music, now it's time to enjoy making it!
I've appeared on recordings with dozens of rock, pop, jazz, and classical groups, and perform on a variety of instruments and styles throughout the Boston area.
I listen to and play all kinds of music from Beethoven to Stravinsky, Arcade Fire to Beyonce, James Brown to Snoop Dogg/Lion. I have had the pleasure to share the stage with rockers Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), and jazz greats Maynard Ferguson, Jimmie Lunceford, Conrad Herwig, "Blue" Lou Marini, and Jeff Coffin (Flecktones).
I've played acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, trombone, tuba, French horn, violin, cello, and string bass drums. Some of my favorite recent projects have been:
-Quilty (Pavement-style hard rock band)
-The Nevermind Orchestra (brass band that covers Nirvana tunes)
-Chill Sons (my own band for which I write songs, play guitar, and sing)
-Manhattan Symphonie (an entertaining symphony orchestra featuring soloists on piano, violin, saw, urdu, and tap shoes)
It is a treat to share music with others, and my lessons are fun, challenging, and engaging.
Thanks for stopping by to look at my profile! Let's hang out and do music things.

Chuck is very patient and very knowledgeable, and he has a way to let the kids to absorb quickly. My son can already play 30 short songs on Saxophone and Guitar after only 5 lessons.
Chuck was on time, professional and my son really enjoyed his first lesson. Chuck was able to quickly figure out where my son was in the learning process so that they could get started right away. Excellent teacher!
Chuck was terrific with both my five year old son learning to play for the first time and my more experienced husband learning to refine his skills and progress further with theory. He is excellent with children and my son keeps asking if he can come everyday.+ Read More
I lucked out when Chuck became my teacher to give me guitar lessons. After all these years, I am finally beginning to believe that I can actually play a guitar, thanks to Chuck. He gives me his positive feedback at every lession which encourages me to practice and believe in myself.. He is so smart, kind, patient, talented, and funny too. If anyone comes to you seeking a very talented teacher to learn an instrument, you would be wise to assign Chuck to be their teacher.+ Read More
We're a few lessons in and Chuck is helping me a lot! As someone who does not have a performance degree, I have a lot of basic questions about how to practice, rehearse and perform. Chuck has been great and I look forward to continuing to learn!
Being a complete beginner with no background in music or playing a musical instrument, Chuck was patient and enjoyable to work with. I am excited about the future lessons!
Great interesting trumpet lessons learning fast!
Had a great guitar lesson! Great teacher!
I had some questions and Chuck Wilson helped me a lot
I had been teaching myself how to play guitar for a few years and felt like I was not making any progress, so I decided to take some lessons. I feel very fortunate that I was able to find Chuck and work with him.
Chuck is a very talented musician and teacher. He communicates and explains musical concepts in a way that's easy to understand. Lessons were challenging, but in a good way, and Chuck is always friendly and supportive. He gave me great recommendations for what to work on in practice and always had listening suggestions that reinforced what we were working on.
I wish that I had started taking lessons with him sooner, because I learned and improved more as a musician and guitarist in 2 months of lessons with Chuck than in the 2-3 years I had been teaching myself how to play. I can't recommend him enough, especially for beginners or someone who needs a little help to take the next step in their musical journey.
Teacher works wonders!
My son enjoys playing with the school band and jazz band, but never put in more than he had to. That was until he started taking lessons with Chuck. He's done a 360. My son is setting goals and achieving them, all thanks to Chuck. His confidence grows with each lesson. I'm not the only one to notice. His band director notice the improvement after just a couple weeks of lessons.
It is wonderful to see my 10 year old son look forward to his trombone lesson with Chuck W. Chuck is encouraging and supportive of my son who is a beginner. He is really getting him up to speed on all aspects of his trombone. Chuck is very knowledgeable and has a great rapport with my son. Awesome instructor!
Great teacher for beginning trumpet player
I decided to pick up the trumpet in my 30s having no experience with it, just an appreciation of the music. Chuck has been my teacher for a few months now and I highly recommend him for any beginners and for any horn players.
As a given, he's very professional, always on time etc. And clearly he's a very good musician, and has plenty of experience teaching and performing. I also appreciate that he's been flexible on rescheduling lessons as I have had a good bit of travel and conflicts.
Aside from those basics, what makes him a good teacher and sets him apart I think are:
- Chuck really tries to tailor the lessons to the student's interest. For me that's jazz and funk music.
- Offers very good, focused suggestions for practice. I feel like I get much more out of practice when I do what he recommends, and I think he's very thoughtful in providing direction for how to practice.
- He makes music theory and technique accessible. I don't have a musical background but I'm learning a lot of different concepts along with learning to play the instrument. Chuck explains them well in a way that makes sense.
- He's generally encouraging and fun. Lessons are enjoyable and productive, but don't feel like work.
I look forward to continuing to learn from him.
Chuck really knows what he is taking about, his age allows him to be at the forefront of new ideas which he puts into your lesson. He comes prepared with a vast assortment of exercises and knowledge which work together to help you become a better musician.
My son decided to start playing the trumpet this year, in 7th grade. He was significantly behind his peers since most of them have been playing since 4th grade.
Last month, he started taking lessons via Skype with Chuck. He has been a wonderful teacher. He's very patient and thorough. In just a few lessons, my son has made significant improvement. His band teacher has even noticed and commented on it. My son is very excited with what he has learned from Chuck each week. Chuck is always on time with the Skype call and we love the convenience of not even having to leave the house!
Also, my son is on the autism spectrum (Asperger's) and Chuck has been fabulous with him. He's kind and very patient. He puts things in terms that my son can understand and goes at his pace.
All in all, we are very happy with Chuck.
I've owned a guitar for several years and got tired of it collecting dust, so I decided to take some lessons. Chuck is very patient and very helpful. I will recommend Chuck to any body that wishes to learn how to play Guitar. If I have questions or concerns he listens and we work together to try and resolve them. The lessons are at my speed and I never feel rushed. His ability to explain & define concepts related to the lesson provided critical elements necessary to help me better understand the instrument. A very good instructor and very friendly as well
Got so much out my lessons with Chuck!
I have been playing the sax for about 9 years and had minimal music theory knowledge. A lesson a week with Chuck for about 6 months before going off to college gave me everything that I wanted. Chuck is very knowledgable, friendly, and goal-oriented. Each lesson individually and the lessons as a whole revolve around what the student wants to accomplish and Chuck does a great job of making sure the student is satisfied. Overall, an excellent teacher!
I recently took some trombone lessons with Chuck. I am a percussionist at a university looking to get my degree in music education which is why I decided to take some trombone lessons. I had minimal experience on brass instruments before this, but Chuck was very encouraging and helped me out a lot. I felt that within the ten weeks i studied with him, I learned a great deal about trombone/brass in general.
Excellent brass teacher!
I am a clarinetist and public school music teacher. I recently took some trombone and trumpet lessons with Chuck W. to improve my brass chops.
Chuck's teaching is clear and precise. He helped improve my overall sound by diagnosing problems I was experiencing in basic sound production. For trumpet and trombone alike he was able to pinpoint my issues, explain to me what I was doing wrong and correct it. The lessons I have taken with Chuck are well-rounded. He focuses on technique, sound production, tone quality, as well as working on repertoire.
I would definitely take recommend lessons with Chuck. He is patient, thorough, encouraging, and a lot of fun.
