HI, I am Chris, I am from Mauritius a little tropical island in the Indian Ocean (Fun fact: the native Island of the Dodo bird). At a very young age I was exposed to hand drumming, and at the age of 12 I decided to pick up the drums. Self taught, I played in many bands on the Island, and a few years later, I was playing in hotels, private shows, national and international festivals. When I moved to the US 15 years ago, I met a bunch of musicians and we started playing/ touring in New England, the entire country, as well as Canada. The genre ranged from; Funk, Jazz, Hip hop, Latin grooves (Bossa nova, Samba, etc), Rock, Metal, EDM, Dubstep, Drum&Bass etc. For the past 5 years I have been teaching, band leading/ directing, and camp directing at the School of Rock Watertown. I cover all stages- beginner, intermediate and advanced. Those includes: -Learning, practicing rudiments and applying them musically -understanding groove (tempo/ pocket/ feel) - developing fills and applying them musically - getting creative around the drums - intro to drum soloing - learn how to read and sight read (including analyzing and transcribing songs, in search for your own voice) - techniques for speed (Hands and feet) -advice on tuning, maintaining, buying, selling, or modifying your drums -exercising rhythm (connecting to noises all around us everyday) - having fun
