I have more than 16 years of experience playing the piano, and around 10 years of that has been spent either playing in the South Shore Youth Orchestra, church events, and private functions, as well as the occasional tutoring. I'm currently a college student finishing up an Associate's degree in teaching, and it's my goal to move on from there and get a Bachelor's in music. Having been certified in Teaching English as a Second Language (TEFL), I already have had non-paid teaching experience during the course of my studies, and am familiar with different methodologies in order for students to succeed. While I have not yet made a living teaching music, any student of mine going forward can be assured to gain a balanced grounding in musical theory and practical piano-playing skills. While the Classical genre is a favorite of mine, I have more than dabbled in other types, such as ragtime and jazz. Since I have played in bands for different performances, I've also gained the improvisation skills necessary to play well in that kind of environment. It's my belief that music shouldn't be hammered into students, and instead be allowed to flow with their interests. If you should so decide these attributes are a good fit for you, feel free to obtain my services, but I have one condition - while I am easy-going, something that comes from my great enthusiasm in regards to music, expect to show me some dedication! A skill like piano-playing isn't something to be learned overnight, so I ask that you come with an open-mind, truly knowing that this is going to be worth it for you (if you're unsure if it's worth it, take my advice - it is!).
