CHRIS S. Award-winning guitarist Chris S., hails from Winnipeg, Canada. Coming from a musical family, Chris started playing music at an early age. His first professional band was playing old time fiddle music with his dad, Albin, an accomplished violinist. Chris began studying guitar at The Royal Conservatory Of Music in Toronto where he completed Grade 10 Classical Guitar. He followed this accomplishment by winning the Manitoba Music Competition for Classical Guitar, Level 11. In 1999, Chris won Fender Guitar Warz. In the year 2000, he won the same competition in which he played alongside Jeff Healy, one of Canada’s premier blues and jazz musicians. It was a very exciting performance and his first on national television. Chris decided in order to follow his dream, he would need to leave Canada. He moved to Los Angeles to study guitar at The Musicians Institute in Hollywood where he graduated First Class Honors and was dubbed “a success story” by the Institute. His success included becoming the house guitarist at Bodeo Rodeo Recording Studio in Burbank, CA where he played on recordings for House Of Lords and Nancy Sinatra. This lead to record deals as lead guitarist in original bands Rumble Tribe and Steel House Lane. A true showman, Chris was asked to perform with Boogie Nights, a popular disco parody. This group toured the U.S. for a couple of years. Tribute bands became popular and Chris was asked to be the lead guitarist/vocalist in several bands including The Long Run, a tribute to The Eagles, where he plays the style of Joe Walsh, one of his favorite guitarists; Space Oddity, a tribute to David Bowie, where Chris creates the illusion Mick Ronson, another of his favorites; and Rob Caudill’s Tribute To Rod Stewart. As if this doesn’t keep him busy enough, for the last decade Chris has been the guitarist for 80’s sensation, Gene Loves Jezebel, whose hits include “Desire”, “Jealous” and “Motion Of Love”. Their tour is called The Lost 80’s which includes other popular bands such as The Motels, Flock Of Seagulls, Tommy Tutone, The Romantics and Dramarama. This tour has taken him to China, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Japan, Rio DeJaneiro and Greece. In his other spare time, Chris performs with original/cover band Hemlok Bay. He contributed his guitar and bass skills to their CD “Just Another Day” and performs in Laughlin and Reno, NV with them, as well as local Orange County clubs. A guitar teacher since the age of 14, Chris currently owns Valencia Guitar Head, a premier music school in the Santa Clarita Valley where he teaches guitar and bass. *** Lesson Details *** I tailor my lesson plan around the students' goals and playing level.
