    About Chris M.

I am a practicing music therapist, using my musical skills as a teacher to enhance the lives of other individuals by teaching them how to approach, play and learn an instrument. I graduate from Marywood University with an undergraduate degree in music therapy with a focus in percussion as well as minors in piano and guitar. Music therapy is an evidence-based approach facilitated by a board-certified music therapist who uses music interventions to help individuals reach various goals. As a music therapist, I have used guitar and piano in my approaches with individuals. I use a wide range of songs and styles while working with individuals that have included but are not limited to folk, jazz, rock, religious and pop. I have taught individuals beginner guitar and piano as a means to benefit their overall health, develop leisure skills or just simply to give them something fun to do! Currently, I serve as a volunteer musician for my local church as their drum set player. Primarily, the songs played are within the genre of rock/pop. I play with a full band including singers, a bassist, guitarists and pianists. Apart from this experience, my college education has trained me in various drum set styles and approaches that include jazz, funk, new age, etc. I also am in perform in an acoustic duo as a guitarist and singer. We have played at local open mics and other venues in the Greater Scranton Area. I also play acoustic guitar, piano, percussion and sing in an acoustic duo band with my fiancé. We play at various locations throughout the Greater Scranton Area. Our focus is on taking different songs and making them appropriate for an acoustic setting. We have performed at different open mic nights and other events. My lessons focus on the individual and their current goals, needs and talent. I take into account the personal desire and motivation of all students to ensure that they are successful and are enjoying themselves! I have extensive experience working with individuals with special needs and other disabilities. My approach focuses on the individual in order to plan for success and enjoyment. Feel free to ask a question and let's get things rolling!
