Bass Lessons with Recording/Mixing/Live/Bass Maintenance and more! My name is Chris M. I'm a 24 yr touring vet. I've been on tour, played at venues across the country, and recorded great studio albums. I am also a recording engineer and live mixer. All of this goes into teaching you how to play Bass Guitar. Communication is the key and making sure you understand everything, from how to tune, to how to adjust your neck/pickups, how to go direct for a live show, how to record, what mics sound best on bass, Pro Tools sessions, and of course how to play, pick, thumb, slap pop, and finger tap...plus more. I specialize in teaching beginner classes as well as intermediate classes. If you not sure where you stand, that's ok too just ask me a question to see if I can help you get to where you wanna be with your playing/mixing/recording etc. Also if you are not interested in recording or any other things that's OK too although I do recommend it of course, but it is in no way extra as I just naturally want to teach you all of what I know. My bass classes are done differently. I usually start of with home jam projects written, as we progress I start to include some online homework to spice things up, this might include drum tracks to jam to, maybe with a click to work on keeping time, or maybe just some awesome video's on turning scales into solo's or a fun groove. Sometimes I'll even have you jump around while you play, jump on a table and jump off while still keeping time and playing the correct notes, or I might just start yelling "FREE BIRD" at you when your working on a new song/piece.....:) That actually happened to me in Tennessee... I recommend many different aspects of being a bassist. sites for getting cheaper strings, where to look for a band, and field trips to jam with a live drummer/band on rare occasions. We also have an open mic night on Wednesday evenings all ages till 10pm. Another exciting aspect is RECORDING! When your ready we can do a jam session/instructional recording of our lesson together on an HD Pro Tools rig. It's always a great way to get into recording if you haven't already. Or maybe work on one of your original tunes. And if you want to book a recording session with your band or a guitarist/singer/pianist/etc. we can do that as well. I also coach on gear(what amps I think are great sounding, which would sound good for your style of music and budget, what gear is good for recording(pre-amps, compressors, eq's, etc.). And of course work with in your budget. Cause lets face it, everyone would love to have a $50million dollar recording studio but for most of us that's not gonna happen. But that doesn't mean you can't get great recordings. Some of today's music you hear on the radio where recording in a hotel room, or artists home studio. I also help you create your own songs. Not writing your riffs for you, but putting them together or giving you ideas. You can basically think of it as me Producing a song for you. I also do some of the more traditional things if need be. For example: I show you how to get into the pocket, when and how to give it that little extra something to make the bass stand out and say....BOOM! Or when to lay back a little and let the other guys do their thing. I have played everything from Blues, Jazz, Funk, Rock, Alternative, Punk, Metal, Death Metal, Thrash, Reggae, Country, and even some Hip-Hop. So I can definitely help you excel in whatever genre you play in. Can also put you on the right track to booking shows. The how to, the where is a good place to play, and what the Chicagoland music scene is doing at the time, as I regularly play shows in the area. When you become a student at my Studio, you get 110% focus, and commitment from me. All of my knowledge goes into teaching you to be a better musician. Might be how you move up and down the neck, how you always play major notes instead and skipping minor notes, or what to pack in your gig bag just in case. Chris M.
