About Chris C.

I am a professional composer, guitarist, and producer. I studied music composition in my undergraduate at Columbia College Chicago and received my Master of Fine Arts in Music Composition for the Screen from Columbia College Chicago in the summer of 2018.
I take pride in ensuring that every week, my students have learned something new from our lesson, and I make a point to personalize all of my lessons to the individual needs of my students. I can teach students to play and write the music they want, but also have the technique, knowledge, and skillset to take their own work to the next level to be the best musician that they can be! My lessons are built on the goals of my students, and I will do everything I can to make it as fun and engaging as possible!
I work professionally as a Composer for Media, writing music for video games, movies, and television having worked with and learned from film and game composers like Gerard Marino(God of War), and Joseph Bishara (Insidious/The Conjuring Franchise) in addition to having my own projects.
As a guitarist, I've been playing for thirteen years and have played in metal bands for most of my career, having toured the west coast and recorded three albums with two different bands, but also in my free time as an independent recording artist composing, recording, mixing, and mastering my own material. From Black and Death Metal, to Post Modern Classical music, Fusion, and even the synth soundtracks of the 70's and 80's, I have a very diverse musical background that has lent me a very unique voice and skillset as a composer and professional musician.
I primarily teach in many styles, but my specialties are all varieties of Metal, Rock, Classical, Contemporary, Modern Classical, Fusion, Ambient, and Acoustic guitar.

Chris has a fantastic understanding of music theory. He has given great lessons on functional harmony as well as voice leading. Additionally, he has a depth of knowledge on extended techniques, as well as the complex, modern theory that often comes with them. I highly recommend Chris for anyone looking to learn about or expand on their current knowledge of music theory.

I had Chris as a tutor for music theory/music composition for college-level classes and I don’t think I could have made it through this class without his knowledge, expertise, and ability. He’s extremely patient and kind and no question is ever a dumb question with him. I ended up receiving the highest grade in the class. When I was about to give up and drop the class, I’m glad he had the faith in me that I could learn the material and encouraged me to keep going.
