Are you interested in being able to confidently play lead and rhythm parts in a band? Want to learn to write songs? Want to learn to just strum along to your favorite records by yourself?

I will teach you or your child all of the knowledge and tools needed to do whatever your dream is on your instrument. My aim is to help every student achieve their personal goals on their instrument within the context of a relaxed and patient environment that promotes a love of music!

I achieve this by:

1) Individualizing lesson plans so that each student stays engaged and learns in the style that is best for them as learners.

2) Ensuring that students learn BOTH how to play their instrument as well as the theory behind what they are playing. This creates a more well-rounded musician that is capable of problem solving on their instrument and being able to play in a variety of settings.

I have been playing music for over 10 years and teaching private lessons since 2014. I play everything from solo guitar gigs, to jazz gigs, to musical theatre pit work, to lead guitar for country artists, dance/funk bands, and rock bands.

The list of artists I have worked for includes: Doug McCormick, Aberdeen, Cody Webb, The 12 South Band, the 8 South Band, Safari Room, Colleen Orender, Kiera Loveless, Natalie Johnson, Katie Davis, Chip Colon, Faith Jackson, Hopscotch Mafia, and more. I've recorded lead guitar on records for Jaye Madison, Chip Colon, Monica Hutcheson, Safari Room, Miranda Powell, as well as others. I perform every week around Nashville, nearly every weekend in different states across the country, and once even had the opportunity to play in Scotland!

I graduated from Belmont University in the Spring of 2018 with a degree in Commercial Music, so I have had the "conservatory training" in regards to music theory and history, but before college I was largely a self taught player and am now a professionally performing musician here in Nashville.

Chris is a great instructor! He caters his teaching style according to you and your skill level, which was exactly what I was looking for as an intermediate player who didn't need to go over the basics or start learning theory. After my sessions with Chris are done, I'm excited to keep practicing and see how much I can improve before the next lesson. Highly recommended!

Chris accommodated where I am as a musician and tailored our lessons to best help me do what I want to do - learn base lines and rhythm. He prepared for each lesson and presented me with new material that was exactly what I needed. He was laid back, knowledgeable, and accommodating of my jumping all over the place as I experiment. Excellent teacher.

I’ve been taking guitar lessons with Chris for 9 weeks. He is an accomplished player, and absolutely well qualified to teach. I am especially impressed by, and appreciative of, his patience with my slow progress so far. He always provides positive feedback, and is supportive of letting me determine the pace of instruction.

I highly recommend anyone interested in learning guitar contact Chris, and have a conversation with him about your experience, musical tastes, and playing goals. He is easy to talk with and takes an immediate interest in tailoring instruction to match your goals and works to incorporate lessons into your particular lifestyle.

I cannot overstate how fortunate I am to have found Chris as a guitar teacher.

Chris adapts to different learning styles very well, and he's very approachable and kind. His passion for music is inspiring and he makes complex ideas simple and easy to understand. If you're a beginner (like me), he makes sure you completely nail down the fundamentals to prevent any later confusion. It's also very helpful that he provides lesson recordings and short lists, summarizing what you should be practicing each week.

I highly recommend Chris Collier to all - beginners, intermediate and advanced - who aspire to learn and become a proficient guitar player. He is a gem of a person, an exceptional teacher and yes, he can play lights out. Chris brings incredible knowledge, experience and intelligence to each lesson and thanks to him, I'm becoming the guitar player I always dreamed about.

My initial lesson with Chris went very well. HIs key attributes are that he is attentive and a good listener which enables him to tweak the lessons to what work on you, as everyone learns differently.

Chris has went above and beyond my expectations as his student. I have tried teaching myself guitar for over a month, only learning basic chords. I have been to three lessons, and I am already playing songs!

Chris is an amazing guitar instructor and an even better guitarist! He makes lessons fun, he’s very approachable, and he’s great at explaining everything from nailing riffs to musical theory. His versatility is impressive and he genuinely wants to teach songs that fit my interests which keep me engaged and excited to practice between lessons. He sends handouts, recordings of our lessons, and sums up what I should practice which has been immensely helpful. I’ve asked Chris for advice between sessions and he goes above and beyond by sending back videos breaking down my question. His ear is amazing and he gives great advice on how to improve and how to get to the next level. You can tell that guitar is his passion, which is contagious. I would recommend Chris to anyone on any level- whether you’re trying to polish up your skills or you’re a complete beginner!

I've never taken a guitar lesson before. Learning on my own prior to meeting Chris. I learned more in the very first lesson that I did in several months of figuring things out on my own. Chris is super responsive and adapts his lessons not only for my skill level, but also adapts the lessons to the small things that interest me. He's not only great at teaching the techniques needed to play well, but he provides enough theory so it's easy to understand. I'm extremely happy with Chris and would highly recommend him if you're learning to play.

Chris is thoughtful, patient, and always prepared. I've taken lessons with him since August and have learned theory, many songs, and my playing is essentially night & day versus before. More than that, I look forward to our weekly lessons because they're always fun and a chance to pepper Chris with questions that he always has the answer to. I have recommended many folks to Chris and you would be wise to take lessons with him, too!

Chris is an excellent teacher. He has really helped me achieve a newfound joy in music through guitar. I am constantly impressed by his knowledgeable, calculated, and individualized instruction paired with his gentle, gracious disposition. I especially love the balance he helps me find between technical skills that have helped me be successful in starting from scratch with the instrument while also helping me to be musical, have fun, and focus in on the guitar player that I want to be.

Chris is great. He plays a bunch of instruments, so we'll often switch between mandolin, guitar, and bass in the course of a single lesson. He can be flexible or regimented depending on the needs of the student, and he's able to incorporate theory into the lesson seamlessly. Highly recommend.

Chris is an awesome teacher! I have been taking lessons with Chris for a few months. I had spent quite an extended period studying with other instructors but Chris is still helping develop me to a better musician and guitar player. Have been working on some ear training stuff that other instructors maybe would not have taken the time to work with me on! Working on hearing and playing the divided sky by phish right now not an easy piece of music. Also working on more phrasing and country blues licks and theory. I would definitely recommend Chris to anyone👍🎸

I am likely the oldest student Chris is currently teaching, with a brain that doesn't soak up the material like the youngsters.
He is a very skilled musician in his own right, but most importantly, he is very patient and presents the material in a way that I can grasp it.
The atmosphere is relaxed and I always look forward to me next lesson.

Chris is patient and kind and teaches in a way that is clear and easy for even complete beginners to understand. When I get frustrated or discouraged in my practice, Chris is quick to try and pick me back up - he's a great motivator and he helps you remember to celebrate the small victories.

Learning with Chris is fun and engaging - he makes sure to incorporate music theory into the practice so that you are able to understand the why behind the "rules" of music. Chris is great at tailoring a learning plan to your specific goals as well as your baseline skills.

Chris is great! I've been trying to learn via Rocksmith for ~2 years, and I'd made some good progress, but I felt like I was missing some things. I started taking lessons with Chris about 3 months ago, and he's been awesome at figuring out where I am and which skill gaps I can fill to make me a better guitarist overall. His lessons are a fun mix of practical application and (a very non-scary, beginner-oriented take on) music theory. He's great at tailoring lessons to what I want to learn and is always really positive and encouraging! I highly recommend him!

Chris is patient, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and flexible as an instructor. Even after only three sessions, I feel more confident in my playing and am beginning to understand musical theory that I hadn't understood when I began practicing guitar on my own. Chris has been great at blending theory lessons with technical lessons; he's also balanced well honing previously taught skills and learning new ones. Excited to learn more!

With my daughter, he is patient, approachable and makes her comfortable and eager to learn. She is more and more excited about the things she is accomplishing and I feel that she is getting a firm grasp on the important fundamentals of guitar.
Honestly, we feel that we have found a jewel of a teacher and my family highly recommends him.
