It's all about the groove!
As a gigging musician in Nashville, I know how vital it is for a bass player to have great feel. I strive in my bass lessons to give students a foundation of technical skills and music theory, but to also encourage the growth of a student's ear in order to turn them into a functional musician that can play for enjoyment or have the knowledge to step into band or ensemble situations and fit into the groove.

About Chris C.

Are you interested in being able to confidently play lead and rhythm parts in a band? Want to learn to write songs? Want to learn to just strum along to your favorite records by yourself? I will teach you or your child all of the knowledge and tools needed to do whatever your dream is on your instrument. My aim is to help every student achieve their personal goals on their instrument within the context of a relaxed and patient environment that promotes a love of music!

I achieve this by:

1) Individualizing lesson plans so that each student stays engaged and learns in the style that is best for them as learners.

2) Ensuring that students learn BOTH how to play their instrument as well as the theory behind what they are playing. This creates a more well-rounded musician that is capable of problem solving on their instrument and being able to play in a variety of settings.

I have been playing music for over 10 years and teaching private lessons since 2014. I play everything from solo guitar gigs, to jazz gigs, to musical theatre pit work, to lead guitar for country artists, dance/funk bands, and rock bands.

The list of artists I have worked for includes: Doug McCormick, Aberdeen, Cody Webb, The 12 South Band, the 8 South Band, Safari Room, Colleen Orender, Kiera Loveless, Natalie Johnson, Katie Davis, Chip Colon, Faith Jackson, Hopscotch Mafia, and more. I've recorded lead guitar on records for Jaye Madison, Chip Colon, Monica Hutcheson, Safari Room, Miranda Powell, as well as others. I perform every week around Nashville, nearly every weekend in different states across the country, and once even had the opportunity to play in Scotland!

I graduated from Belmont University in the Spring of 2018 with a degree in Commercial Music, so I have had the "conservatory training" in regards to music theory and history, but before college I was largely a self taught player and am now a professionally performing musician here in Nashville.

I came to Chris with no knowledge on how to play guitar and he helped me develop great habits and start playing. He was very flexible with scheduling and even came to my place multiple times. I recommend Chris to anyone ready to get into guitar it was a fantastic experience.

I really enjoy my lessons with Chris and find them to be a great help in developing my guitar skills as a beginner. Many people have talent but I feel few are also equipped to teach their talent, I feel Chris does a great job at both.

Chris is great. He plays a bunch of instruments, so we'll often switch between mandolin, guitar, and bass in the course of a single lesson. He can be flexible or regimented depending on the needs of the student, and he's able to incorporate theory into the lesson seamlessly. Highly recommend.

Chris is an awesome teacher! I have been taking lessons with Chris for a few months. I had spent quite an extended period studying with other instructors but Chris is still helping develop me to a better musician and guitar player. Have been working on some ear training stuff that other instructors maybe would not have taken the time to work with me on! Working on hearing and playing the divided sky by phish right now not an easy piece of music. Also working on more phrasing and country blues licks and theory. I would definitely recommend Chris to anyone👍🎸

I am likely the oldest student Chris is currently teaching, with a brain that doesn't soak up the material like the youngsters.
He is a very skilled musician in his own right, but most importantly, he is very patient and presents the material in a way that I can grasp it.
The atmosphere is relaxed and I always look forward to me next lesson.

Chris is patient and kind and teaches in a way that is clear and easy for even complete beginners to understand. When I get frustrated or discouraged in my practice, Chris is quick to try and pick me back up - he's a great motivator and he helps you remember to celebrate the small victories.

Learning with Chris is fun and engaging - he makes sure to incorporate music theory into the practice so that you are able to understand the why behind the "rules" of music. Chris is great at tailoring a learning plan to your specific goals as well as your baseline skills.

Chris is great! I've been trying to learn via Rocksmith for ~2 years, and I'd made some good progress, but I felt like I was missing some things. I started taking lessons with Chris about 3 months ago, and he's been awesome at figuring out where I am and which skill gaps I can fill to make me a better guitarist overall. His lessons are a fun mix of practical application and (a very non-scary, beginner-oriented take on) music theory. He's great at tailoring lessons to what I want to learn and is always really positive and encouraging! I highly recommend him!

Chris is a great instructor. He is patient and is extremely generous with my learning curve. He teaches the subtleties of guitar and I love that he doesn't assume I won't understand. I look forward to seeing how my lessons progress. Can't wait to learn more from Chris!

Chris is an excellent guitar teacher with knowledge rooted in music theory. He'll not only teach you how to play the guitar, but he'll help you understand exactly what you're doing so you can play better, grow faster and comprehend more. His lessons are tailored specifically to the student to help you reach the guitar goals you're trying to achieve.

Chris is patient, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and flexible as an instructor. Even after only three sessions, I feel more confident in my playing and am beginning to understand musical theory that I hadn't understood when I began practicing guitar on my own. Chris has been great at blending theory lessons with technical lessons; he's also balanced well honing previously taught skills and learning new ones. Excited to learn more!

Chris is a super chill guy. He knows what he's doing. He studied guitar in college and it really shows. He'll help you learn whatever it is that you're trying to get down, or if you're not sure where to start, he'll start you where he thinks you will benefit. I enjoy our lessons and I highly recommend him as a teacher.

My 9 year old daughter is currently taking lessons from Chris. We have been more than pleased with so many things about him.
With my daughter, he is patient, approachable and makes her comfortable and eager to learn. She is more and more excited about the things she is accomplishing and I feel that she is getting a firm grasp on the important fundamentals of guitar.
Honestly, we feel that we have found a jewel of a teacher and my family highly recommends him.
