Determine skill level of students using computerized pre-test. Inquire as to student's favorite song and either purchase sheet music or write out simple lead sheet by hand. If student does not desire to learn how to read music, instruct in rote techniques so they can play something meaningful within the first few lessons. Provide additional support and advice either via email, phone or in-person as appropriate.

Private music instruction

If you need to learn to accompany a singer or another musical instrument, I can assist with that. Ear training is part of this and you will learn a system known as Nashville notation to create a workable lead sheet. You will listen to several selections of music from all different styles and split them up into bass, rhythm, fill, sweetening, etc.

Hi, my name is Chet. My students call me "Mr. Chet." I have been teaching piano, keyboard and synthesizer since 2005. Originally from near Portland, Oregon, I took courses from the Berklee School of Music in Boston and have been playing professionally since just out of high school. You wanna know how to get those professional-sounding licks into your playing? I can help you do that. Most sheet music is so bare-bones that it almost doesn't sound like the song- together we will learn how to beef it up. My lessons are meant to be fun while you learn- and they are because they are written just for you. I have a pretty laid-back teaching style, but if you think you can just goof off, you'll find out differently really quickly.
