Hello and welcome! My name is Charlotte, and I am a multi-instrumentalist with formal training on vocals. I love teaching music and I put a strong emphasis on developing healthy technique alongside strong musicianship skills.

I have been actively performing and writing since the age of 16. I received my training at the University of the Arts and graduated with honors in 2007 with a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Vocal Performance. I have performed and recorded with bands spanning many genres -- jazz, country, rock, pop -- and continue to write and perform as a freelance musician.

In addition to teaching from my home studio and student locations, I also teach voice and piano at School of Rock Oceanside.

My areas of expertise are jazz, folk, pop, rock and musical theater singing. I focus on applying proper vocal techniques to contemporary music to help my student achieve their goals! Some specific areas of focus are:

-Expanding range of the students best abilities
-Vocal Phrasing
-Musicianship/ear training
-Reading music & sight signing
-Building repertoire
-Performance techniques, including mic technique

Sometimes we will work on a classical piece to help target specific techniques.

I also teach beginning piano and guitar.
We focus on:
-Reading music
-Music theory
-Beginning technique
-Understanding the instrument
-Playing melodies and chords
-Right and left-hand independence

I do commute to Oceanside, so if you are interested in in-home lessons in Oceanside, Carlsbad or Vista, please contact me to see if we can work that out!

*** Specialties ***
Jazz, rock, folk, pop, and musical theater. Songwriting (lyric and musical composition), learning to sing while playing an instrument.

She did a great job, I was starting to play my favorite song by the second lesson and am getting more knowledgable about guitar with every lesson. It's been a pleasure to be her student .

My teenage daughter has been taking vocal lessons from Charlotte for 1 1/2 years. The progress my daughter has made is exceptional and I attribute that to Charlottes teaching:
* Positive environment-Charlotte knows how to connect with students so they feel very comfortable working with her.
*Motivating-Charlotte approches lessons in a goal-oriented manner so students can experience their own vocal progression & expanded capability.
*Range of styles-Students learn a variety of singing styles that they may not have previously known.
*Musical Ability-Charlotte accompanies students on piano and guitar and does not rely on recorded songs. She is able to describe and demonstrate vocal techniques.
*Songwriting-Charlotte writes her own songs and can work with students to develop songwriting capability.
*Site reading and music theory are part of lessons.
Charlotte is a true teacher, able to partner with students to produce great results. I highly recommend her.
