Hello, and thank you so much for checking out my profile! I've been teaching private voice lessons for 14 years, starting in Boulder, CO, then NYC for several years, and now here in Austin, TX! I perform and record, BUT my true passion lies in creating exciting, empowering and uplifting experiences in singing and the performing arts! While I'm skilled and experienced in teaching all levels, I particularly enjoy working with children and novice singers, supporting them in developing the confidence and technique they need to fully sing the songs they love, audition for that part in the school or community play - or even take it further, really making music and voice their life! My ultimate goal as a teacher is to create an environment where you feel safe to explore and grow your singing voice. I believe the voice is an extremely intimate instrument, in that it is within us... and it's my job to help you learn to fully use, and fall in love with your own, unique and amazing instrument!!!

My daughter is a high school actress who was bitten by the musical theater bug, plus she wanted voice lessons to increase her confidence—and pleasure—in singing. She had no previous training. There is no other word but "uncanny" for Chantel's ability to connect with an individual student, intuit her strengths and unique interests and musical aims, and yet also inspire her to stretch and move outside her comfort zone. My daughter also took guitar lessons with Derek and I would say exactly the same thing about his teaching. (Plus he was ever patient with her sometimes haphazard approach to practice as she struggled to balance school, work, etc. Chantel and Derek always got this, and were great about tailoring lessons to my daughter’s current situation and capacities.) I believe the training is as rigorous as you'll find anywhere. Just as important, it is loving, supportive, spirited, *fun*. Chantel and Derek's home studio is warm and intimate, plus I had the pleasure of hanging out with their delightful three-year-old while my daughter was in lessons!

Chantel is wonderful!!!! We first worked together as back up singers for a professional theater show years ago and she was knowledgeable, talented, accurate, kind, and fun!!!! I am also I professional vocalist and teacher based in Miami Florida, and Boulder Colorado and recently I was lucky enough to shadow Chantel through one of her choir camps learning from her experience. I was moved and totally impressed by the VERY IMPORTANT work she does supporting the self esteem of young women she works with!!!! As well creating a very entertaining and beautiful performance.
