    About Chanse M.

    Chanse currently performs and teaches in the greater Houston area. He enjoys collaborating with other artists and is an advocate of new music. Recently, Chanse graduated from the Eastman School of Music receiving his Master of Music in Clarinet Performance and Literature. While there, he performed frequently in the prestigious Eastman Wind Ensemble. This past summer, he was a finalist for the 2020 International Clarinet Association’s Young Artist Competition. Previously, he was awarded second prize in the 2019 Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition and performed substitute clarinet with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. A native Texan, Chanse attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education. During his senior year, he student taught in Pflugerville ISD, assisting with band programs and beginner instrumental classes. Throughout his education, Chanse has had the opportunity to play for several well-known clarinetists such as Andrew Marriner, Steve Cohen, Alan Kay, and Michael Wayne. His primary teachers include Kenneth Grant and Jonathan Gunn.

    Mu Phi Epsilon

    Mu Phi Epsilon (ΜΦΕ) is a co-ed international professional music fraternity. Today, Mu Phi Epsilon has chapters both nationally and internationally. The fraternity supports achievement in music through the awarding of grants and scholarships, as well as music competitions, concerts, and summer music programs. Much of this work has been supported by the Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation, an organization that has been in existence since 1963, as well as fundraising and donations.

    The International Clarinet Association is a community of clarinetists and clarinet enthusiasts that supports projects that will benefit clarinet performance; provides opportunities for the exchange of ideas, materials, and information among its members; fosters the composition, publication, recording, and distribution of music for the clarinet; encourages the research and manufacture of a more definitive clarinet; avoids commercialism in any form while encouraging communication and cooperation among clarinetists and the music industry; and encourages and promotes the performance and teaching of a wide variety of repertoire for the clarinet.

    Begun in 1920 as the Texas Band Teachers Association, the Texas Music Educators Association is an organization of over 10,000 school music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education. TMEA is comprised of five divisions: Band, Orchestra, Vocal, Elementary and College. On behalf of its members and Texas schoolchildren, TMEA carefully monitors the actions of all state decision-making bodies on issues affecting fine arts instruction in Texas. In addition to many member benefits, TMEA offers professional development opportunities for its members with Region workshops and especially with its annual Clinic/Convention. TMEA supports the future of music education by offering scholarships to music education majors and by sponsoring the Texas Future Music Educators, an organization through which high school students interested in careers in music education learn more about what to expect in their college education and future careers.
