Hello! My name is Cathy, or as most people call me by my nickname, Kasia. I graduated Depaul University with a Music Composition degree with a focus on piano and harp and am currently studying Music Education at St. Xavier University. I have been teaching piano for over 7 years now. I enjoy teaching kids the art of music because it is what makes up everything we have in this world. I teach piano technique along with the art of piano performance and music theory for my students to understand what music is and what it is made up of. I make sure they understand what they are playing in order to understand the art itself. I am a very motivated and inspired person and the great connection that I make with my students is that I inspire them and they inspire me. I open their minds towards creativity and discipline. I have been playing the piano professionally for over 13 years now, I am also a classical harpist and I have my own musical duet called Magical Keys.
I teach the way my students are most comfortable with and I teach what fits their personality.
A Magical Keys Christmas is a show that I produced and directed, and consists of all my choirs from churches that I lead, all piano
and vocal students from the Magical Keys Studio and vocal ensembles from St. Xavier University. This show is something we put on for the community and accept donations to give to the church for help and support.
I have a duet called Magical Keys. This duet plays many weddings across Chicago. This ensemble features my sister Karen Szczech on violin and myself, on piano, harp, and vocals. We play all kinds of music, from classical, to pop, to gypsy folk tunes. We have played many weddings, and other occasions such as communions, birthday parties, etc. Since my sister and I are both studying music, we write most of our own music that we perform.
We play mostly at wedding ceremonies and receptions during dinner time. In the morning, we put on the classy long dresses as we fiddle the Canon in D on violin and harp while the bride walks down the isle, and in the afternoon we put on our Lady Gaga outfits, and put on an entertainment show for our guests while they enjoy their dinner.
We have much experience with performing and improvising for large audiences. We enjoy entertaining our guests while making them feel happy to see their loved ones commit to the love of their life.
This was a tour my group Chicago Arts Initiative went on in Germany to work, compose, and perform with one of the greatest new music ensembles in the world, MusikFabrik and the junior ensemble Studio MusikFabrik at the Darmstadt Music Festival taken place every year. Many composers and performers from all over the world come to this festival to join hands and make music out of this world.+ Read More
Was accepted to an Italian International Piano Music Festival in Castelnuevo de Garfagnana, Italy for the summer of 2014. Was chosen to participate in studying with professors from Rome and give a solo performance.
Cathy was more than exceptional teaching piano to my son. She communicates well with times to teach and has a lot of knowledge to pass on to her students. My son could play nearly an entire piece after a few lessons. We could not ask for a better teacher!
