My sub-specialty is teaching performers of all kinds; singers, dancers, instrumentalists, actors, yogis, as well as sports athletes; equestrians, skiers, cyclists, tennis players, runners. I also work with parents, kids, seniors, knitters, fine artists, healthcare workers, computer professionals, and more.
If you live in a body, I can help you to live in it more harmoniously with grace, power, and coordination. My many years of martial arts training in Aikido informs my teaching. I use the Aikido principles of being centered, sensing, connecting and blending to help you learn how to make your everyday movements more dance-like- flowing, easy, and free. The old habits of lugging oneself around with effort and heaviness fall away and you begin to transform into a better version of yourself.
About Cathy P.
I love the Alexander Technique( AT)! It is a powerful set of tools for helping people realize the positive changes they desire in their lives. There has been nothing more gratifying than witnessing the confidence and joy my students find after a course of lessons in the AT.
I have always been ‘a mover’; as a child roller skating, skateboarding, bicycling, dancing, skiing. As an adult, adding on to the list of outdoor activities. Beyond seeking fun, I have developed a keen interest in the art and physics of movement, and the philosophy of learning. Why do some people ‘feel’ more at home in their bodies, more confident and coordinated? And vice versa.
I have decades of experience teaching the AT to all ages and occupations. I keep my lessons fun, lively, humorous. I encourage and empower my students. After taking lessons, most people have a profound sense of feeling grounded, open, lighter, and calmer. Sign up for one lesson or a package of lessons. Let’s work together, so that you can learn to live in your best body!

I have worked with Cathy both in person and online. Working with her has helped me in my weaving craft and in daily activities from commuting, computer work, gardening, etc. Cathy's depth of knowledge of the Alexander Technique and her insight into what is needed for each individual is amazing. I highly recommend her.

A herniated disk in my upper back left me with extensive pain from the neck through my arm, hand and back. I was scheduled for surgery but wondered if there was another way? After unsuccessful sessions in massage, yoga, Rolfing and acupuncture, a Feldenkrais practitioner recommended I talk with Cathy. That suggestion changed my life. The pain started to subside by the second session. The Alexander Technique in now integrated into nearly everything I do from skiing, sailing and hiking to working at a desk, driving a car, even getting out of bed. I have been working with Cathy now for over 10 years and the benefits just keep coming!

Cathy is a wonderful teacher. I went to Cathy after a neck injury and Alexander Technique helped my recovery and return to my favorite sport. Her knowledge of the Alexander Technique is impressive. She listens well and takes time to answer questions, plus Cathy is fun to spend time with.

Cathy's work is compassionate, accessible, and clear - just the right ingredients you want for mind-body education. You will learn so much about yourself - about your postural balance, freedom of movement and ease. With Cathy will take you on a journey that is pleasurable and will fit your learning style with no bull. You'll learn to destress your life with steps that are simple, yet fundamental to living life with comfort and ease. It's worth every dollar!

I took Alexander Technique classes from Cathy a few years ago. She is very personable and knowledgeable. She was able to adjust how I moved such that it significantly improved my balance. It focused my movement during activities such as mountain biking and skiing. I highly recommend Cathy!

I have terrible posture and work as an audiobook narrator so I sit still about 6 hours per day. Working with Cathy has helped me breathe easier, helped my voice last longer (and sound stronger), and helped my back and neck pain immensely. Highly recommended--thank you Cathy!

Cathy is a wonderful Alexander Technique teacher. She is thorough and teaches with compassion and humour. With Cathy you learn to be the best you can be on every level, mentally, physically, and emotionally. She teaches you to move through life with more ease and fluidity and she makes it fun!

I have had AT lessons with two different high quality instructors. I can say truthfully that Cathy is hands down the best. She has skills coupled with talent. I am a classical singer and she has helped me sing better than ever as well as have better ease of movement in a body that has serious joint problems due to RA. I cannot speak highly enough about the utility of Alexander Technique for anyone and everyone, but especially those who do specialized things with their bodies like athletes, musicians, and dancers. If you possibly can, book with Cathy.
