About Catherine M.
Hi! I am a fluent ASL user. I have taught classes for both Deaf and Hearing children & adults for over 25 years, and even founded a Christian school for the Deaf!
I've interpreted professionally in the community, at religious services, medical venues, and in higher education for 30 years, I have a strong knowledge of local signs and Deaf language tendencies.
In addition to teaching basic ASL, I have taught groups and done individual mentoring for advanced ASL learners and ASL interpreting students. For Deaf learners, I offer individual online classes for writing and English skills, as well as lessons to help you understand documents and write resumes.
I love making ASL fun to learn, but accessible to people who want to quickly get involved in communicating with the Deaf community.

First lesson went great. Catherine was great to work with and I look forward to next lesson.

Kids had a blast! Theyre telling their nana all they learned!
My kids can be all over but she was able to keep their focus thats the sign of a professional teacher!

Very fun! Friendly instructor, ready to tailor the lesson plan for the student’s particular needs or goals.

Seldom does one get the opportunity to honestly and truly rave about someone, It is in deed an honor to rave about Catherine. For my granddaughter's 22nd birthday, I wanted to gift her with something different and special. Because she had taken a sign language class in college and loved it, I decided to gift her with limited private lessons. However, I was not sure about having her take lessons on line. After researching various sites, I decided to try Take Lesson. Catherine was the instructor that stood out and I was very impressed with her overview. Choosing Catherine turned out to be the best choice I could have made Catherine immediately connected with my adult granddaughter, who by the way, was not sure about doing online lessons. Catherine's skill level elevated my granddaughter's skills to another level. My granddaughter was excited about her lessons, she enjoyed Catherine as her instructor, and she was able to accomplish more in signing than she expected. Catherine's compassion and people's skills definitely surpassed most. Knowing a skill and being able to teach someone a skill is totally different. Catherine is very skill and she knows how to teach the skill. I applaud Catherine for she is truly one of the best!

Ms. Catherine is a super sweet teacher who's class is very informative, educational and fun to be in! She customizes lesson plans to what you want to learn so you can meet your ASL goals. She taught me so much that I wanted to learn and has a very pleasant personality. Thank you Ms. Catherine :)

Catherine makes learning ASL so much fun! She is very organized and professional as well as engaging!

Catherine is really great about tailoring her lessons to fit your needs and learning goals. She is a terrific teacher who is patient and will really help you to improve your signing skills!

Really nice teacher and was really flexible when I couldn't attend a meeting. Very fun experience.

Cathy is an incredible instructor with an immense amount of ASL experience. Her lessons are jam-packed with fun activities that make remembering signs easy and enjoyable! Additionally, she is very in tune with deaf culture and offers her students many signing variations.

amazing. love her energy. very easy to understand.

She is a wonderful instructor and makes you feel completely at ease.

Catherine was an amazing teacher with a lot of in-depth experience with both ASL and Deaf culture. She was able to explain the nuances of regional Deaf cultures and signs, and the history of ASL and how it informs the signs used to this day.
She’s very encouraging and easy to work with, and more than willing to tailor the classes to your specific goals. I was able to progress towards my goals and feel encouraged and better prepared to continue studying.
She has experience as an interpreter in hospitals, churches, classrooms and even signing in the home, all of which require very particular knowledge and context.
Most of all, she loves and works directly with the Deaf community and brings that care and experience to every lesson. Thanks Catherine!

Catherine is wonderful! I am excited for our next session!

What can I say? Cathy is amazing! I really enjoy the class, how patient she is and very kind!
Thank you

I am so happy that I chose Cathy, to learn from. She teaches ASL in a fun and informative environment. From the history of the language, to the reason a sign looks the way it does, to “hands-on” activities - you will learn and retain the information. Cathy prepares her students to interact in the deaf community, and encourages us to do so. I am quickly learning the language, meeting wonderful people (who I otherwise never would have met) and I’m growing more confident in ASL all the time. Thanks Cathy!

Cathy is very knowledgeable of ASL and the history behind it. She demonstrates how the local deaf community uses signs that may be different in other places.

Cathy is an amazing teacher and her memory techniques make picking up the language so much easier! She makes learning fun and entertaining as well as informative. Would recommend her as a teacher for anyone wanting to learn ASL.

She is the best ASL teacher I have ever seen. I am now a professional ASL Interpreter for my career after being taught and mentored by Mrs Metcalf. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND !
