Ear Training with Carolyn S.

Carolyn began playing the violin and taking lessons at the tender age of four and attended Settlement Music School for the majority of her adolescent life. She then furthered her musical studies with Gregory Teperman (Concert Master of the Walnut Street Theater; Philly Pops), and eventually went on to Temple University, with a focus in Music Education. She is an active professional musician in the Philadelphia area and continues to play in a variety of Indie, Irish, and Country bands. She has had the pleasure of playing such venues as the Wells Fargo Center, TLA, World Café Live, and more… backing opening bands for such artists as Frankie Ballard and Carrie Underwood. Carolyn finds her greatest joy in teaching which she has been doing since 2012. She has been a staff teacher at Music and Arts, Bensalem High School, and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She is fluent in many teaching methods including Suzuki and Kodaly, but prefers a more open-ended approach. She suggests a classical foundation, especially for young beginners, however she is a firm believer in customizing her lesson plans to the individual needs, preferences and personality of each student. Carolyn wants each of her students to feel comfortable, understood and most of all heard.
