Hi! My name is Carolyn. I am from Missouri, and I have recently graduated with my Bachelor's of Science in Spanish Education. I spent last year living in Oaxaca, México, studying Spanish and teaching English. I love teaching and helping students understand concepts. I have a passion for languages, so that makes the learning/teaching process a lot more fun for both of us! Aside from teaching, I love to spend time with friends and family, go salsa dancing, and spend time outdoors. I look forward to working with and teaching you! :-)

    Experience

    Spanish Teacher

    Sep, 2018 - Present

    Central High School

I graduated in May of 2019 with my undergraduate degree in Spanish Education, and I spent the past several months completing my student teaching at Central High School (students range in age from 13 to 18). I have lower-level Spanish classes, as well as a high-level course where we practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking at the advanced level. As a student teacher, I have complete control of the classroom. I plan lessons, conduct tutoring, create and administer assessments, handle grades, engage with parents, and all the while I am subject to the observations of my supervisor, my cooperating teacher, and the school's administrative staff. Although I will be saddened to leave this school, this experience has broadened my eyes to the world of teaching and helped me to grow as an educator. I am eager to continue teaching and to share my passion for world languages with my future students.

English as a Second Language Teacher

    May, 2018 - Aug, 2018

    Nágora Language Academy

I taught English as a Second Language (ESL) at a private language school located in Oaxaca, México. I had students ranging in ages from 4 to 50, and I taught a wide variety of subjects within the English language, especially grammar and reading classes. I was responsible for all course preparation, grades, and administering exams. It came time for me to return to the USA in August of last year, but working at Nágora was a tremendous experience that helped me to grow and develop my skills as a world language teacher.
