- Teaches students:
- Ages 6 to 87
- Teaching since:
- March 1989
I earned my degrees in music and elementary education at Southeast Missouri University. I taught music in school for seven years. in 1989 I began teaching only privately . I am constantly aware that the best way for students to learn is a program individually planned for him or her. I love teaching all ages..Through the years I have expanded my lessons to provide performance opportunities for those students who are interested.
*** Lesson Details ***
Each lesson is geared toward that one individual. I am familiar with all the music book publications so I pick and choose from them for each individual student.
Every lesson will be a positive experience with little treats at the end of their lesson. For the students who would like to participate we have recitals at Steinway Piano Gallery every three month.
For the vocal students who would like to participate we do singing performances at Retirement Homes . I have many costumes from which to choose for the characters. Some of our favorite shows are Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music , Disney and Phantom of The Opera.
I Am located in the Crestwood,Webster, Kirkwood, South County area.
*** Studio Equipment ***
In my music studio I have a console Baldwin and a baby grand. I have microphones and audio equipment for practice for voice students. I record all voice lessons that the student takes home to practice.
*** Specialties ***
I design my lessons to fit the student I am teaching. I give certificates for progress. Stickers are given to younger students.
I am open to a wide range of music for piano and voice. My main interest is guiding you to your goals be it simple or accomplished. Whether you want to be more comfortable singing in church or the church choir or wanting to be in musicals or be The American Idol I will guide you in obtaining your goals. The same applies to pianist whether you are leaning for your own pleasure or want to become a professional. I can help you accomplish your goal.
I've just started with Carolyn and have had only 3 lessons. She is very patient and encouraging. I have been singing in church choirs and community choirs most of my life. Just recently, I joined a non audition choral society that performs classical music and more demanding music. I was told that no one wanted to sit beside me because I was singing the wrong notes. If they thought that would deter me, they were wrong. I did drop out of the spring concert because I didn't have much time to improve. I have always wanted to take singing lessons but never created the opportunity. I am determined to learn to sing well and to join the choral society for the Christmas concert. I believe that Carolyn is the teacher who can help me achieve this goal.+ Read More
Excellent teacher, I was learning to read and she helped me tremendously and I would certainly recommend her with great reviews!
After almost 20 years away I'm really enjoying taking piano lessons again. Carolyn has been great about tailoring lessons for an adult beginner, and focusing on the type of music that I want to play. She has also been flexible working with my schedule, something I very much appreciate.
Great and Personable Teacher
I took voice lessons from Carolyn for a number of years, and she was a great teacher for both technique and building confidence for public performance. I didn't hesitate to send my son to her for both piano lessons and voice. Her work with him really helped to bring him out of his shell (he was very shy!), to the point where he doesn't hesitate to sing solos and perform piano at both school and church. He took lessons from Carolyn for over 10 years, and is now enjoying choir at college (in an audition-based group). But as good as Carolyn's advanced students are, it was always great fun to go to her shows and recitals to see the young kids perform; she really has a way with them!
Been with Carolyn for 9 years
My daughter has been taking piano lessons here for 9 years. She is now in 10th grade and Carolyn has been her only teacher. She has become quite an accomplished pianist. Starting with Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, she has progressed to competing in ragtime and sonatina competitions under Carolyn's direction. Carolyn presents recitals several times per year which is a great confidence builder for the kids. A variety of music is presented at the recitals, including music the students have written with Carolyn's help.
Another daughter took voice lessons with Carolyn for a time. We were thrilled to discover what a beautiful singing voice she has. Carolyn really taught her how to use her voice as an instrument. My daughter enjoyed the shows Carolyn presents at nursing homes several time per year. She got to dress up in all kinds of costumes that Carolyn provides.
Carolyn is also really good about rescheduling lessons when conflicts arise.
