Violin with Carolyn A.

I’ve been self-employed since 1990 and am a professional violin teacher, violinist, and luthier (building, repair, and maintenance of string instruments). I am an active orchestral musician and have played with the Northland Symphony Orchestra for 30+ seasons (that’s a lot of notes). I graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelors of Music Education with an emphasis on the violin. I’m a graduate of Red Wing Technical Institute’s Musical Instrument Repair and Building program. My passion is teaching violin students from beginning through intermediate levels. I’ve started many children and have given many adults their first lesson on violin. As a private teacher, I develop individualized lesson plans for each student. Lessons are sure to include humor and patience while areas such as developing proper technique in an ergonomically friendly way, developing effective practice skills, gaining knowledge of music theory as it applies to the violin, learning to read music, developing ear training, and playing musically are learned. I strive to “fill in all the holes” which are the gaps in knowledge and technique that can limit progress and enjoyment. In 2016 I started a string ensemble in Gladstone, Mo for adult students to have a place to play and learn the skills required to play in an ensemble. This is a fun success on many levels as it gives an opportunity to learn to match bowing styles and rhythm, work on intonation as a group, and create lasting friendships.
