English (ESL) with Caroline S.

I have been a teacher in the Los Angeles area since 1995. Born in California, I moved to Washington as a child, but returned here to the Golden State to go to Occidental College in Los Angeles. I moved to Long Beach in 2002, where I opened my own ESL program in 2011, through our church community center. As a native Californian, I love our diverse and energetic state, and especially the international vibe of Southern California. My husband's family is Japanese, but my whole family speaks Spanish, and we make tamales and pozole for Christmas! I also love languages and translation, so teaching English naturally became my profession. Teaching is my joy and delight. In more than 20 years of teaching, with thousands of students passing through my classroom, I honestly know that everyone can learn English. I work hard to plan lessons, create my own projects and exercises to fit my students, and to constantly improve the quality of my curriculum and skills. For this reason, I use many different activities and styles of teaching in a single lesson. In one hour you might practice conversation, play a vocabulary game, write paragraphs, do dictation, practice speaking on the phone, and more. Learning a language is an adventure, and it should never, ever be boring. It's a challenge, but one of the most exciting you'll ever experience.
