    About Carol N.

Greetings, Students! I’m thrilled that you are considering piano, guitar and/or composition lessons! As your teacher, I will bring an energized spirit to every lesson. I am an active recording artist who sincerely loves music and the sharing of my experiences as it relates to your course of study. At age 5, I composed my first piece, Rain, on piano. My students play that song now! Later, I was a dance accompanist in Washington, DC, Chautauqua Institution and at Harvard University. I have a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Maryland where I studied piano with Dr. Roy Hamlin Johnson. My graduate degree, a Master of Music in Composition and Production from the University of Miami, was my entrée into professional film scoring for PBS and the TV show, “America’s Most Wanted.” I am a recording artist with several new age and smooth jazz CD releases. I’ve taught many private students in my home studio. Currently, I am accepting all levels of piano and serious composition students online m. For piano students - minimally, you are required to have a stationary device like a laptop, a keyboard with weighted keys on a stand and ‘with a regulation height bench. There are many youtube videos showing how to create this kind of permanent music learning area in your home. For composing students - please follow the instructions above. Additionally, you are required to have thorough knowledge of music fundamentals/chord spellings and will be required to make a supplies purchase prior to your first lesson. Composition lessons are minimally an hour long. I will ask you to upload your work in free versions of Sibelius or equal software weekly. I will also help and encourage you to find a local ensemble in your community who, when allowed, is willing to perform your carefully crafted works. For those who wish to acquire prerequisite music fundamentals knowledge or wish to concentrate on computer skills/MIDI and DAW recording, please feel free to contact me about those lessons as well. Be brave; make good music!
