About Carla G.

Hello! I’m a violinist, pianist, and arranger. I graduated from North Georgia College and State University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music (concentration in violin and piano), then in 2013 from University of Georgia with a Master of Music degree in violin performance.

I teach violin students of any age group, with the goals of beautiful sound production, ease and confidence in playing, and enjoyment of the instrument. Since technique effects each of these elements dramatically, we will focus our attention in lessons and practice on attaining and maintaining excellence in technique. Students can expect an overall balance between several important aspects of musical study: repertoire which meets individual musical needs and goals, exercises and scales, and music theory to promote fluency in the language of music.

Piano students can expect a strong emphasis on music theory and technique. I believe that developing a student’s understanding of how to play the instrument from the beginning stage frees him or her to learn repertoire with increasing efficiency, ease, and beauty. I am ready to help students learn to read music, to understand chords and progressions, and to play piano literature from beginner levels to advanced.

I have 24 years of playing/performance experience, as well as 18 years of private teaching experience. In addition to teaching private lessons, I taught at University of North Georgia for 3 years and at Greenville Classical Academy for 2 years, before returning to Georgia. I held leadership positions in the orchestra at NGCSU as well as at UGA. I have performed on violin as a soloist with the NGCSU orchestra, the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra, and the North Georgia Chamber Symphony. I am currently in my final semester of a Master of Arts degree in Biblical counseling from Bob Jones University.

I am passionate about passing on the creative discipline of music! For me, it is a way to help people, not only in the obvious way of developing their musical skill to enjoy and to share, but also to encourage values such as hard work, personal accountability, discipline, accuracy, attentiveness, endurance, determination, perseverance, and creativity.
