Hi, My name is Candice. I am deaf. I am American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor at community college for 2 years; almost 3 years in 2018. Whoo Whoo! I teach ASL classes in Bakersfield, California. Teaching ASL in class is very enjoyable and fun. I love to see my students learn my language and culture. They gain the awareness of Deaf culture, Deaf history, and Deaf community. I always encourage them to be involved in deaf community so they can interact with deaf people. That way they can get used deaf people' various signing style and build their confidence into ASL conversation.
I graduated from California State University Northridge with Bachelor's of Child Development and am currently teaching ASL classes in 3 hours every weekly for beginner students. My versatility, experience and formal training helps me to make the learning experience easy, stress free and fun.
I had involved in extracurricular activities during my college year: Alpha Sigma Theta deaf sorority for 4 years, AIDS project, National Black Deaf Advocate, Peer Mentor for Child Development class, ASL tutor, and small role in TV show "Switched at Birth". Those activities were rich experience for me because I discover my deaf identify and how I am able to overcome the obstacles in real world to be treat equally.
I love to teach ASL because it is what my passion. You will enjoy to have me as your teacher. I can't wait to work with you! :-)
