    About Caitlin H.

I have worked and taught in K-12 and higher education for more than 12 years. My subject matter expertise is diverse and highly interdisciplinary, spanning the arts, humanities, and sciences. As a director, writer, and editor of educational content and programming, my knowledge and expertise are invaluable to my students. I am also familiar with educational technology, test development, and other forms of assessment. I have worked with students of all ages, including ESL/ELL students and those who struggle with learning and behavioral challenges like Dyslexia, Autism, ADD, and ADHD. I have worked and researched extensively in the arts, humanities, and sciences. My field expertise and teaching repertoire primarily include language study, linguistics, music, writing, literature, and historical studies such as archaeology, art history, and history. However, I am well-versed in related disciplines such as mythological studies, folklore studies, classical studies, Celtic studies, and cultural heritage studies. I firmly believe in a holistic approach to learning and that a well-rounded education is essential for success in academia and life. Lessons incorporate different learning styles and cater specifically to meet the needs of my students. I believe that students should take responsibility for their learning and behavior and encourage my students to be creative problem solvers and critical thinkers. In 2009, I graduated with honors from the Honors Program at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut, receiving a BA degree in English Language, Literature, and Linguistics, with a French minor. In 2013, I graduated with a MLitt degree in Medieval and Renaissance Studies from the University of Glasgow in Glasgow, Scotland. My undergraduate and graduate degree programs integrated study in a variety of fields and were incredibly unique. I studied abroad at the University of York in England. I also completed coursework at Trinity College, the University of Hartford, and Central Connecticut State University through the Hartford Consortium for Higher Education. I was one of only three students accepted into a one of a kind graduate program at the University of Glasgow. I am a published poet and author and am exceptionally gifted with ancient and modern languages, as well as music and other creative processes. My lessons are engaging and challenge my students to pursue their goals. I inspire curiosity and encourage lifelong learning in my students.

Undergraduate Content and Interdisciplinary Writing Tutor; Writing Associate; Online Professional Writing Tutor

    Jan, 2008 - Sep, 2009

The Center for Academic Excellence at the University of Saint Joseph

I performed in the capacity of an Undergraduate Content Tutor for various subjects, mainly English Language, Literature, Linguistics, and French. I also provided content support in Fine Arts, Art History, Religion, Astronomy and Astrophysics courses, and other areas. As an Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Writing Tutor, I assisted students with writing and research for all subjects in one-on-one tutorials. I completed a year-long internship as an in-class tutor and teaching assistant, known as a Writing Associate. In this capacity, I assisted professors in multiple departments with specific classes and completed the work of a Graduate Teaching Assistant while still an undergraduate student. I offered weekly office hours, aided students in one-on-one tutorials, facilitated and taught study groups, lectures, and seminars to review and revise course material. I acted as mediator between the professor and their students, relaying progress reports, concerns, issues, and successes. I also took notes, provided supplemental handouts and data for students from lectures, and attended all classes. My work as a Writing Associate involved assisting the professor with their teaching duties and instructing students in the course, providing insight and subject matter expertise to supplement the professor's teachings, and helping students prepare for research projects, exams, and other assessment forms. As a Writing Associate, I also independently taught several courses in the professor's absence while the professor was away at a conference. I received substantial training in education, research, pedagogy, and related competencies required of teachers and professors. Work as a Writing Associate was separate from the work I did through the Work-Study Program as an Undergraduate Content and Writing Tutor. I also provided support for Honors students as a member of the university's Honors Program. I trained and was employed by the Center for Academic Excellence as an Online Professional Writing Tutor before graduation. I also was an exemplary writing student, having been one of only two students in my graduating class to receive the highest mark of 5 on my required Writing Portfolio. Typically, this award is only given to one student a year, but I was one of two exceptional students who received this honor in my class.
