My name is Caitlin! I have been teaching students since September 2007, and I started teaching private lessons in April 2014. I went to the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, and I earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Education in December 2013. I am a kind and understanding person, and I would consider my teaching style to be flexible, relaxed, yet always progressing. I would love to help you improve your musicality and technicality of your instrument and to help you reach your individual goals as well!
My primary instrument is flute, and I have been playing flute for over 15 years. I received four years of formal university flute instruction from highly regarded flute instructors. I have privately taught flute students ranging from third grade students to adults since April of 2014. With my training and playing experience, I am sure to be able to help you improve throughout our lessons! Students of all levels are welcome for lessons!
Each week, I would conduct 30-45 minute rehearsals for our church choir members. The choir consisted of 15 members who ranged from elementary school students to retired adults. We performed beautiful hymn arrangements for the congregation once or twice a month during our Sacrament meetings.
In the three months of preparation for "Joseph Smith: The Prophet" (also known as "The Joseph Smith Oratorio"), I would rehearse weekly orchestra sectional rehearsals on Thursday evenings. If the orchestra director was unable to attend any of the weekly orchestra sectional rehearsals with me, I would fill in and conduct the full orchestra. I would also coduct the full orchestra on Sundays when she was unable to attend.
This was the third of three student teaching field experiences. For 14 weeks, I was able to teach fifth through eighth grade general music classes at Old Quarry Middle School.
For seven years, I taught ballet, jazz, and hip hop for students 6-12 years of age. I also taught a Barre and Pilates class for three years.
This was the second of my three field experiences. I was able to teach a small lower-level band for eight weeks, as well as conduct warm-ups and a performance piece for the advanced band at Joliet Central High School. For the next six weeks, I was able to conduct for a 5th grade band and teach sectionals for the 5th through 8th grade band members at Three Rivers School and Channahon Junior High School.
This was my first of three student teaching field experiences. During the semester, I was required to observe students in their classroom environment three times a week for two hours each visit. I observed K-8 classes at Chaney Monge School.
I taught music and singing to the children of the congregation for two and half years. The children ranged from two to 12 years of age. With the older children, we worked on learning and singing about 10 songs to perform for our annual Primary Program. We also worked on learning and singing holiday songs to perform for the congregation. While learning these other songs, we would sing our favorite songs for a fun break. For the younger students, we would use visual aids or fun movements while we sang.
