Overview

My name is Caitlin! I have been teaching students since September 2007, and I started teaching private lessons in April 2014. I went to the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, and I earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Education in December 2013. I am a kind and understanding person, and I would consider my teaching style to be flexible, relaxed, yet always progressing. I would love to help you improve your musicality and technicality of your instrument and to help you reach your individual goals as well!

FLUTE LESSONS
My primary instrument is flute, and I have been playing flute for over 15 years. I received four years of formal university flute instruction from highly regarded flute instructors. I have privately taught flute students ranging from third grade students to adults since April of 2014. With my training and playing experience, I am sure to be able to help you improve throughout our lessons! Students of all levels are welcome for lessons!

Experience

Choir Director

Jul 2014 - May 2015
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Each week, I would conduct 30-45 minute rehearsals for our church choir members. The choir consisted of 15 members who ranged from elementary school students to retired adults. We performed beautiful hymn arrangements for the congregation once or twice a month during our Sacrament meetings.

Assistant Orchestra Director

Apr 2014 - Jun 2014
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

In the three months of preparation for "Joseph Smith: The Prophet" (also known as "The Joseph Smith Oratorio"), I would rehearse weekly orchestra sectional rehearsals on Thursday evenings. If the orchestra director was unable to attend any of the weekly orchestra sectional rehearsals with me, I would fill in and conduct the full orchestra. I would also coduct the full orchestra on Sundays when she was unable to attend.

Student - Advanced Field Experience (Student Teaching)

Aug 2013 - Dec 2013
University of St. Francis

This was the third of three student teaching field experiences. For 14 weeks, I was able to teach fifth through eighth grade general music classes at Old Quarry Middle School.

Dance Instructor

Sep 2007 - Jun 2013
Major School of Dance

For seven years, I taught ballet, jazz, and hip hop for students 6-12 years of age. I also taught a Barre and Pilates class for three years.

Student - Intermediate Field Experience

Jan 2012 - May 2012
University of St. Francis

This was the second of my three field experiences. I was able to teach a small lower-level band for eight weeks, as well as conduct warm-ups and a performance piece for the advanced band at Joliet Central High School. For the next six weeks, I was able to conduct for a 5th grade band and teach sectionals for the 5th through 8th grade band members at Three Rivers School and Channahon Junior High School.

Student - Beginning Field Experience

Sep 2011 - Dec 2011
University of St. Francis

This was my first of three student teaching field experiences. During the semester, I was required to observe students in their classroom environment three times a week for two hours each visit. I observed K-8 classes at Chaney Monge School.

Primary and Nursery Chorister

Jul 2009 - Dec 2011
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

I taught music and singing to the children of the congregation for two and half years. The children ranged from two to 12 years of age. With the older children, we worked on learning and singing about 10 songs to perform for our annual Primary Program. We also worked on learning and singing holiday songs to perform for the congregation. While learning these other songs, we would sing our favorite songs for a fun break. For the younger students, we would use visual aids or fun movements while we sang.

Caitlin is extremely patient and uses positive feedback. My daughter was very nervous the first lesson and Caitlin sang along with her to help calm her nerves and make her feel more comfortable. She patiently went back over notes my daughter struggled with and encouraged her while explaining techniques to help her with the more difficult notes. My daughter was very excited to go back and enjoyed the second lesson ever more! She also wants to continue going more than what we originally signed up for. Thank you for the great experience, Caitlin!

Caitlin has been giving lute lessons to my granddaughter for several months. Caitlin, in my opinion, is a very good teacher. She cares very much for her students which makes them very comfortable with music. My granddaughter had already been playing the flute in her school band and Caitlin helped her learn the finer elements of playing the flute. I would recommend Caitlin as a teacher for anyone wanting to learn the flute.

Caitlyn has done an excellent job instructing my son on the piano. She is very reliable and Ryan really enjoys learning from her. He didn't have any formal training prior to her, and he's learned a lot, and is really enthused about playing the piano.

Wonderful. In two lessons, there was already so much improvement in my daughter's voice. And she loved her. She was compassionate and so helpful. Excellent instructor.
