I'm a fun loving, friendly and personable teacher who wants you to get the most out of your time and money. I encourage my students to practice daily and have fun while they sing. Sometimes the techniques you learn will require some silly activities that hopefully will make you laugh, but they can be invaluable for learning new skills and training your body to help you sing better. I think singing is an experiment with each student because no two people learn the same way, so I try to match my teaching style to your personality so you can learn more quickly. I hope you will give me a try and see how enjoyable and rewarding it can feel when you make great strides in your abilities and achievements in singing! I teach basic singing techniques and vocal coaching, which includes breathing, posture and jaw position. We will work on vocal exercises, breathing exercises and song style and interpretation. You will also learn performance stance, emotive expression and stage etiquette. Performance recitals are optional but a possibility. Learning proper vocal technique helps shape the quality of your voice and helps prevent vocal injury, often caused by poor posture, poor breath support and singing from the throat, which puts strain on the vocal cords, causing nodes. We will work to build singing endurance through stretching your breath capacity and singing for longer periods of time. Six lessons is required for learning the basic principles, while more lessons are needed for mastery of skills and learning a song well. My experience is with classical art song, opera, oratorio and broadway musical repertoire. I have appeared in The Magic Flute (Mozart) and Die Fledermaus (Strauss) numerous times in various roles. Also I have been a soloist with orchestra, chamber ensemble, and piano. I have also sung the National Anthem for two professional sports teams, college teams and high school dozens of times. I have performed at the White House and Carnegie Hall in an ensemble and appeared as a soloist on television three times. I am currently studying to be a clinical psychology counselor and I immensely enjoy the personable interactions with my voice students.
