I have a Bachelor of Education from Melbourne University and a TEFL certificate from ITTT and I have been teaching for 10 years: 4 in China, 1 in Japan, 1 in Korea, 1 in Thailand, 1 in Taiwan and 2 in South America. 6 of them at private schools, 2 at public schools and 2 as a private tutor. I speak and teach only neutral Spanish without any accent or slang.
My primary teaching method is space repetition and I supplement it with a lot of role plays, improvisation activities, and a student-centered approach, making sure that the teacher talking time is reduced to 20% of the of the class time, so the student is the one who gets the chance to speak at least 80% of the time.
The technique I use, (spaced repetition) it’s not fun but it works, I know because I have used it to teach myself Italian, German, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. I have several courses, like the one for travelers, where we learn everything we need to know to get by in South America or Spain: How to introduce ourselves, the numbers, how to ask for prices and buying things. Asking for directions, checking into a hotel, ordering a meal at a restaurant, taking a bus or taxi, and much more.
