- Levels Taught:
- Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
I teach chords and melody. I teach a person to read music or play by
ear. I teach out of a song book that not only
has great songs in it but also has a play-along CD with it. Every one loves this type
of learning method.

I received my degree from the University of Utah in instrumental music education. Along with specialized training in band and orchestra instruments, I also offer lessons in guitar, banjo, mandolin, and harmonica in playing and performance. When a student has a song they want to learn, I focus lessons around the requested song. I also have an extensive library of songs that I utilize. My music methodology is built around a song book that also has a CD attached. This has proven to be a lot of fun for all my students. It makes practice time more fun as they "play along" with the CD.
*** Lesson Details ***
With folk instruments I start by teaching the student basic chords and basic chord sequences.
In the beginning I stress the proper hand position and I spend some time perfecting the best finger position. This eliminates a lot of problems that will come up later. For the first songs I teach them songs that use those same chords and chord sequences. Soon after that I teach them how to read music. This is vital to being able to play lead on any folk instrument. As the student progresses he or she is exposed to many different styles of music I also will teach several different picking and strumming patterns. .The student is also taught about more advanced chord progressions and music theory that can be used in any situation.
For brass instruments I teach techniques in developing breath control and embouchure development. Attention to these details will eliminate problems that could come up in the future. The student will learn how to read music from the start. As the student develops these basic techniques I begin working on tone development and breath support. As the student progresses he or she will be exposed to many different musical styles.
During the past two years I have been working for the Clark County School District as a Para Pro. I help students that need extra help to be more successful on their instrument.
I specialize in teaching the lower brass family. That is the Tuba, Trombone and the Baritone. I also train new teachers in the lower brass family if the new teachers has no experience when they first start out.

Bruce is very patient and helpful with the beginner. Greatful he’s my daughters instructor.
It was a great first lesson. Bruce taught me a lot about the mandolin and music in general. I'm excited for my next couple of lessons!
Bruce is a very enthusiastic instructor. He loves music and is passionate about teaching others. I always enjoy going to lessons and have come a long way in a short time. I highly recommend Bruce
Bruce knew where he wanted to go in the lesson. I thought I knew more than I actually knew, and Bruce could sense it and directed the lesson appropriately. I think I’m going to make more progress in a few months than I have in the past two years.
Giving harmonica lessons by Bruce, as a birthday gift to someone who has always wanted to learn how to play and learn about music, made me feel HAPPY to give such gift. My friend learned a lot about music from Bruce in just 5 sessions. Thanks Bruce!☺
My son has really enjoyed his lessons and is learning something new in each one.
Good instructor, patient.
My grandson was very excited after his first lesson. Bruce was specific and patient while working with this 12 year old. He can’t wait for his next lesson.
Very knowledgeable about banjo. Loved learning the history of the instrument. Can't wait for next week.
Very informative, easy going, great ways of teaching
Bruce is great! I am an absolute beginner and he is very patient and I love that he teaches through song (after learning basic chords of course). Overall, he is a wonderful teacher.
Bruce is a fantastic teacher. He uses well planned-out lessons, but will modify as needed to fit the students ability and progress. He is enthusiastic about music and very knowledgable with multiple instrument playing abilities.
Gets straight to teaching! What a nice gentlemen. Looking forward to many lessons to come!
He's very patient and kind. He seems to be enthusiastic about her progress. Definitely recommend!
Great introduction lesson looking forward to what's to come.
My 11 year-old daughter has been taking lessons for about one year. She enjoys her lessons and always looks forward to the next one.
Bruce is a skilled musician who's not only encouraging of her development, but also very patient and indulgent with her whimsical personality. Bruce's wife, Diane, always has a treat (many homemade) available after each lesson.
I highly recommend his services.
Bruce is Great. I am older and had never played before. Within a couple of lessons, Bruce had me playing a song. He is very patient with a style that makes learning easy. I would highly recommend Bruce to anyone.
Bruce is a Folk Guitarist with a wide variety of instruments and skills. His focus is on folk music as this is music that you already know and know how it should sound. His primary instruments appear to be a 12 string acoustic, banjo, and 6 string acoustic, and electric. Frankly, the man is very talented, very patient, and has an excellent plan for both beginners and experts. He not only provides the correct form, but the reason why. His wife is very supportive and offers treats. A really nice touch, and a really nice couple.
