    About Bronwyn L.

Bronwyn L. started playing piano when she was 4. She studied at a Yamaha Music School for 10 years and continued privately with various piano teachers around the United States. She holds a B.S in Spanish, B.M (2008) and a M.A in Piano Pedagogy (2014) from San Diego State University, and continues to take lessons herself in piano literature, theory, and composition. She has performed in various duets, ensembles, choirs, S.D.S.U. Wind Symphony and Orchestra. Other than classical music, she has studied composition, theory, orchestration/arranging, jazz improvisation and jazz theory, recording, electronic composition. She started teaching in 2003, and has taught private, semi-private, and group classes for various ages for many age-levels including Yamaha Music School, through Salvation Army, and San Diego State University. Currently, she teaches private piano, composition, improvisation, and AP theory. She enjoys finding projects that incorporate what students learn at school with music. For example, helping a student studying Spanish to compose a Dia de los Muertos Song as a project. Teaching Style: It depend on the goals of the student. I have some students come for coaching for a particular event or want to learn a single song. Some students want to focus on developing compositional skills or prepare for the AP test. Some students come in with no piano skills, others are more advanced. For beginning piano students, I use Faber, Alfred and Bastien for basic curriculum for beginning students. I believe in well-rounded learning, so even at the beginning levels, composition, improvisation, ear training, music appreciation and other extras are added to enrich the piano lesson experience. Incoming intermediate/advanced students I assess their level, their knowledge, and create a personalized curriculum based on what they want and what they need to strengthen.
