Practice English with a friendly teacher!

I love helping people with their English language learning goals! I am a language and travel enthusiast with a variety of ESL teaching and tutoring experiences. Each lesson is custom designed to meet each student's unique goals and learning preferences. We'll draw from a variety of sources, such as song lyrics, articles, novels, ESL books, and my own materials. I meet students in coffee shops, parks, libraries, or other public places that work for both of us. Please contact me with any questions and to get started. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you! :)

Hello and welcome! My name is Britta and I am a piano and guitar teacher. I teach online as well as in-studio in Round Lake Beach, IL. I have been playing the piano since before I can remember. I took lessons from an excellent teacher from age 5 to 18. During that time, I performed in one formal recital every year, as well as three other informal recitals with my peers. I also took opportunities to play at my school and church and in a variety of ensembles over the years. When I was 18, I accomplished a big goal of mine: Performing George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, piano solo version. I had three performances. That year I also prepared a senior recital, in which I had my third Rhapsody in Blue performance. The rest of the repertoire was by Claude Debussy, who is another top favorite of mine. In addition to playing piano, I played percussion in the school band from age 10 to 18. I also picked up guitar at age 13, and mandolin at age 15. I still love to practice my instruments, and I still love to play for other people. For a while, I thought that was the only role music would play in my life. I was pursuing a career in education. At first, I thought I would teach ESL. Then I decided to try assistant teaching a 1st grade classroom. I spread my teaching wings a bit, but I still hadn’t found the right fit. Then, one summer, I found a free, gorgeous, 80-year-old baby grand piano. As the lovely piano settled in by the front window, it dawned on me how perfect it would be to teach piano lessons. I transitioned into teaching piano lessons the next year. I've been teaching piano lessons for almost 7 years now. About 5 years ago I began teaching guitar as well. It has been an absolute joy.
