A teacher should inspire the student’s own personal musical growth. As a teacher, I strive to not only maintain but increase the student’s passion in piano. Skill comes from practice but musicality comes from the heart. I believe that a student cannot truly understand the music without wanting to understand. In order to understand music, it is important to learn about the history and theory of the music. I also emphasize understanding the most. My passion comes from helping others to understand the joy and extra-dimensional level of piano; the kind of happiness that comes from playing music earned through hard work and musicality. There is a balance between technique and understanding the history and circumstances of the piece and this leads to deeper learning and musicality. Each student is different.; I strive to tailor lessons to their own individual personality. I learn from each student’s personality; this leads to a symbiosis where both the student and I can help each other to greater understanding. To me, nothing compares to seeing the joy and smile on the face of a young student after being able to understand musical concept that they did not understand before.
